Even though I'm not an official of any sort, I sometimes like to hang around in the WA greeting newbies and being helpful.
Two things:
1) It would be cool if there was an option to let my client automatically hilite/demarcate newbies according to some preference settings (hilite if "age" less than 'x', no ratings yet, etc). That way, I could identify newbies more easily to focus my attention on them, and not let any feel neglected.
2) Alts appears as newbies, from a profile POV (no or low ratings, recent "birth" date) -- but they probably don't need my help/greetings. It would be cool if when you create an account, you can mark off "I don't need/want help", and it shows up in the profile, so greeters, etc, can "ignore" veterans with otherwise-apparent-newbie profiles.

Don't ask the Lindens for that, build it yourself! You can use the get agent data function to get the age of all avatars nearby (do a llScan), and then have a function work out who is say, a month young and younger, and list the names for you. It's your world, you can do what you like

I bought a newbie-detector-hat in-game many many months ago. You wore it and whenever a newbie was around you, it would shoot out a beam from your hat to their groin.

Script to spot newbies
01-25-2005 11:00
A script can be more simple than using scan.
Simply do a llListen for the following... feel free to expand this list
10. "Can you show how to make a push gun?"
9. "Hey how do I answer an Instant Message?"
8. "OMG! Look at what my AVI is doing!"
7. "What are cuddle/kiss/pose/etc balls?"
6. "Where is [common place on top 10 traffic]?"
5. "Where do I got to get my picture taken?"
4. "OMG! Look at what his/her AVI is doing!"
3. "Hey do you want a [freebie object everyone has]?"
2. "Hey I just found [common place everyone knows about]!"
1. "A/S/L?"

So do others agree that this functionality would be useful? . Jsecure, To be fair, I suppose I should have been explicit about the need for a non-script-dependent solution. Inez, Thank you. *bows* AaronFor some reason, I'm picturing a fedora. Am I close? Lecktor, Lance, Thanks for the clarifications. and finally Blueman, Siobhan, Thanks for your humorous insights also. I'd add to the list, but the clever part of my brain is still asleep.
