I have alot of life experience and seem to be able to work through tough times etc. I was thinking of opening an advice service... not exactly psychology, but still help with emotional trauma that may crop up in SL I will have a small cozy office in my home and hang out a shingle.
Do you think this is a legal nightmare or am I being paranoid? I really don't think there is a liabiility.. but I am not absolutely sure.

Garth - SL withdrawel is one of my specialties. I can fit you in next week sometime - after I put a few cubes together for a desk and I of course need a fainting couch. Clint, will you be my receptionist?

Oh, this is one great idea I think SL might present both one great medium and also good market for such service. While Second Life offer unique and fascinating opportunities to all of as that have big draw on people in general, it may also be used as escape route by some. And helping those people find their way back and make more of their RL would indeed be valuable service. I think I already met several people in SL who could profitate from this.

Anshe - thanks for the support! Ha! No names will be mentioned of course and the need for confidentiality will be held respected as in RL -- except for the book I will write - but there I will change the names The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.. is a great title that has unfortunately been used. I am thinking The Furry Who Mistook the W-hat for T-paper might be a better title for SL. Heh Heh. And Cadroe - I actually want a traveling booth just like that ... small - simple and something I can fly around in... then I won't have to rent office space from Clint!

Ursa - Just hand out a note card with the standard disclaimer. Make it somewhat humorous and you can always argue in court that it was only intended as humor.

From: Cadroe Murphy No one sued Lucy! haha.. this was the first thing that came to my mind too Cadroe! Ursa, can't help with the legal speak, though I tend to side with Clint that it would seem pretty hard for someone to sue you. And yes, like Rose states, just make a disclaimer type notecard. If you solicit it as "advice" and not "legal or medical fact", then you should have no worries. PS: Let me know if you set up shop! I think I could use you! hehe

I think it is a great idea. I sure would have used you yesterday. Oh wait. I did. You really helped me feel better about things. I think you are perfect for the job

Just be sure to know your limits. Any time the scope of the problem reaches beyond your capabilities, you probably want to be prepared with some referrals to professional service organizations.
Topics I would definitely suggest you not tackle include:
1. Suicide 2. Harming others 3. Divorce/separation 4. Abuse 5. Major financial issues 6. Major health issues
Otherwise, a friendly, neighborhood "Dear Abby" service would be a welcome addition to SL! Creative idea.
