A video tribute to There

A There player named Elliott Beazley made a beautiful video tribute to There .

Wow uhhhh *psh* that was uhh *pfff* uhh*pffffff* sa- AHAHHAHAHAHHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH I CANT HOLD IT AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAAAHAHAHHA. There sucks, and thi video was a fitting end to the suckage.

The clip has a little historical value. Long after There goes belly up, this thing could be still wandering around the Internet. Future generations will look at There (as well as Second Life in its current form) and laugh uncontrollably for hours.

Ryen, that's really rude. Just because YOU don't like There doesn't mean EVERYONE has to dislike it. If you have nothing nice to say...(I'll let you finish this sentence.)

That was a very nice tribute... I have never played There, but I have a similar tribute my EQ guild made oh so long ago, and treasure it still. (:

Well, believe it or not, Thereians read these forums. Whenever they see an anti-There post, it fuels their theory that all SLers hate There(ians).

I played there, and I play SL, so when I say there sucks, I ATLEAST have something to back it up.

Social game: Where the hell are the people?
Vehicles :Yay 50,000 for a new stripe! (phyics are great though)
I met a guy named bigdick mcgree 5 minutes into joining, you could imagine what he said, you could also imagine his age.
Yay! I CAN build and make my own clothing! But it takes 3 years and then its rejected because the letter "I" kinda looks like a penis!

I think I have made my point, so, have an issue, heres a tissue!

I have never played THERE, The video was ok in its production value stand point. However, After seeing the terrain and some of the things in it I was still simply in awe that "Therians" have not jumped ship sooner considering what SL has to offer.

I don't hate Therians, I welcome them in Second life with Open Arms to the world of creation that they can contribute their little part of.

No Offensed intended here but to me with what "Therians" have told me about it I know I would be stiffled in "THERE".

I played TSO from beta and into the live version for about 3 months. I got rich fast and all I could do was work build work build green work build green work build green. Anyway you look at it, it got boring fast. To me from what I have seen of there with virtually nothing to do but party and drive vehicles and buy stuff Id go nutz.

So in closing...my theorys on There and TSO and SL.

TSO-Repetitive boring unimaginative.
Updates...Few and Far between
Chat........Cartoon balloons dont cut it.
Creation ability.....Limited to a select few objects walls and grid types.

There-Owners of there out to make a buck off everyone with limited content.
Updates....dunno never played
Chat.........From Video looks like chat baloons
Creation Ability....controlled by the man

Second Life-What can I say LIMITLESS no bounds baring technical ones.
Updates.....Almost Weekly
Chat..........No bubbles but still needs some tweaking
Creation Ability.....OMG Um...can u say what can I do next.


None of these are perfect but for ability vs value SL wins hands down.

Linden Lab has grown Traumaticly..yes Tramaticly and we are experiencing growing pains.Oh and yes WE means all of us since we all are responcible for the content in the world.

But with the kind of management that LL has its evolving where as the first two are stiffled and smothered by either big businees (MAXIS being owned by EA) or indecision (THERE) and its in ability to relenquish control to the masses.

I agree with everything Shadow said, but in their credit, the world is frikkin huge, and quite scenic. You can litterally see for miles around. Hell, when you're high enough, you can see the curve of the earth in There!

Most people in There like it because it is very simple to use and very quick to learn. Several of them have told me when they've tried SL they felt very lost.

Since I started this thread...

I'm not into There, never been There. Nonetheless I thought the video was a touching tribute to the creator's friends and his online world.

After watching it I say..

Alot of Therians think SL sucks. And after reading posts like yours, I cant blame them a bit.

Dont get me wrong, I really like SL alot. But There is and always be my online home. I dont care what you or anyone else has to say. There is a great online world. It's the people in charge of it that dont know what the hell they are doing.

Thanks for the video. Never vistited There and am glad I got a peek at what I missed. I hope the Therians can rebuild some of their favorite things in sl, the way the Uru people did.

p.s. The dog in the video makes my sl pets look like chew toys!

What happened to there, anyway? All i heard is that they're cutting back customer service. What does that mean, and more importantly, why did that cause a mass exodus?

That's not quite what happened, Zindorf. They actually said they're keeping customer service the way it is, but, they're stopping major development of the client, and no longer fixing bugs. Instead, they're focusing on a There-based platform they can sell to major companies. For example, someone could buy this platform to create a 3d online supermarket or clothing store, or someone could even buy it to create a virtual world.

It's a cool idea, but, who knows if it will take off.
