Heather, you need to take a look at YOUR ACCOUNT area of the website.
to get there you need to start at any on the main pages (for example: Select the COMMUNITY link from the menu across the top of webpage).
On these pages in the UPPER RIGHT side of the page, there is a link to sign in to YOUR ACCOUNT.
Sign in. You will be directed to your main account page. On the bottom half of the page you will find information about LAND HOLDINGS and use for the current billing period.
There you go.
Just so you are aware, you must personally change your tier prior to aquiring the new land. If you purchase land that pushes you over your tier you get a dialog box directing you to the land tier page and requiring you to select a higher tier. LL doesn't just make the change automatically

It's also worth noting that if you sell off land that would drop you down a tier, LL DOES NOT automagicaly drop your tier. You pay the full tier rate at the end of the billing period then you must manualy go to your account and lower your tier...

I released some of my land to buy a smaller plot so i don't actually see how i could have gone over my tier.

Contact customer support, its what it is for. What happens sometimes is for a few seconds while you are shuffling land around you end up going over your tier. Happened to me way back when. Did you get a confirmation to raise your tier? If not then you really need to contact billing. If you did then, well, you have a higher tier for that month. Keep in mind, if you aproved the higher tier any time in the past then you will tier up automatically.
Since the month is young, buy some land at auction and turn around and sell it to recoup the higher tier costs. Also, LL is supposed to only charge you for what land you use so it is supposed to lower the tier charge automatically. It did for me, when I sold my land, my tier dropped to 0 the next month. If it doesn't then there is a problem.

You pay the full tier rate at the end of the billing period then you must manualy go to your account and lower your tier... my understanding is that they only charge you for the tier rate that you've approved AND held land for that month. for example, if i teir up to a full sim and buy that much land, then sell off all but 2048sm of it but leave my tier as is, i'll be charged that month for the full 65,536sm because i had owned it. but i'll only be charged the necessary tier for owning the 2048sm the next month. or, if i raise my tier to 1/2 sim today but never own more than 1/4 sim of land, i'll only be charged the 1/4 sim rate because that's all the land i owned during the billing period. but i might be wrong. it happens occassionally.
