Ok I dunno if this is the right place for this, but how do I make an animated avatar? Or how do I get one to work for me here in the forums. I have found a few I like but if when I change it, it is not animated. Someone's help please??

Well, I'm not sure about Photoshop, but Jasc Paint Shop Pro has a very easy GIF program. I don't have PSP anymore so I can't take you through a walkthrough (therefore this post is completely useless). Sorry! Maybe someone else can help you.

By the way, the format that you want is GIF, not JPG. It's very important. JPG's don't support more than one image.
Most images on Internet websites are either JPG's or GIF's, by the way. I believe you can only have GIF's in 256 colors, whereas JPG's have a higher quality picture.

An animated gif is made from a series of "frames" (pictures) which are displayed rapidly to make the appearence of movement. Only gif files support this. That is likely why your animated images aren't working when you try to use them.... are you opening them in another program and trying to edit them? If you do so in a program which doesn't support animated gif creation and editing, even if you save it as a gif when exiting, the animation is still lost. Unless a program is structured to handle animations, it is only going to save 1 frame of your gif. As Lo said, there are many programs out there for working with animated gifs. I think Jasc Animation Shop (think that's what it's called) has a free trial version you can try out. It was pretty easy to use. I always created my frames seperately in PS, saved each as a gif, and loaded them into Jasc to combine them in order.

As for the animated gif you've been trying to upload... if the animation is gone that image animation is shot. Try redownloading it and uploading it to the board without editing it at all. If it's under 19.5k and smaller than 50x50 pixels, there is no reason it shouldn't work.

If you have Photoshop, the ImageReady program that installs with it is great for doing GIF animations. If you want a freeware ap to do it, google "Microsoft GIF Animator."
