It has come to my attention recently that some of my pre 1.1 items are set to copy/modify. I am and have been aware of this. I assumed that most would realize this does not mean is it alright with me to distribute copies of purchsed garments.

It has also recently been told to me that a few people (I have names, but will not be listing them) have been giving out copies of the items in question for free. PLEASE do not do this. It reduces the value of the item for those who did pay the money for it, and devalues some very hard work as well.

Thanks,
Neph

I agree with this, I usualy make my items copy, mod, and transferable because if someone wants to give a copy to a friend or edit it I feel they baught the right to do so. But to hand out free copys of an item in bulk just doesn't seem right unless you have permission from the creator.

The arguement could be made "If you don't want copys given out, don't make them copyable" which is valid, but its the principal of the matter.

Some things never change.

Just dont give stuff out, ok? If you got it free from the maker and its clear its free.. give away.

If you paid for it then dont give it out. If someone offers something free, ask where they got it. If it wasnt free, take the high road. Next time it might be your stuff.

Well, I think for the most part, if someone runs across an item that is labeled free to copy, they are going to think *just* that. However, I myself have run across a few items that were just too good to be true, and after researching, found out that indeed the item was not supposed to be going down the list. I love to share free copies of stuff with others as to me it was so wonderful a find in the first place, I want to share the wealth.

You give me great reason for more thought though Nephilaine! I will first off be sure to check through my items that I put in my "free to give out" folder and if I run across any with you as the creator, I will be sure to let you know and will remove that item from the folder. I will also continue to question those "too good to be true" items. Hopefully it is more a rare thing than the norm that this sort of thing happens. I hate for creators to feel their work is abused. It keeps them from wanting to create more and that hurts us all!!

as for the issue of the permissions in all this, i think it bears mentioning that the items in question are almost all exclusively pre 1.1, which are copyable by default, as they were sold at a time when permissions didnt exist.
