I admit I am a total reject when it comes to the technical part of creating in SL but my patient partner, Melissa King, has spent endless hours trying to teach me to build bless her little heart. Last night I actually managed to make an angled hunk of iron for our fireplace and I was so excited my finger must have slipped and I deleted our entire cabin!

Recent deletion: Just after Grey Mars had finished the spiffy new Club Hedon, I managed to delete like half the dance floor the next day ROFL Thank gooness GM knows my penchant for demolishing stuff, so he now does some fancy linking and locking and other secret Anti-Brace-Breaking-Shit methods to keep stuff intact. ![]() _____________________

After we moved, I deleted my house three times and had to reset up each time, before I finally stopped deleting it.

Susie, heh, I've been there.
When I was new, I was building crap on the hillside I decided to purchase. The SL cost per month wasn't anything terrible and I wanted a nice, peaceful place where I could noodle around and be me. I can't tell you how many times the focus ended up on the wrong part of the edit window, causing me to delete an entire linkset, rather than just the parameter I wanted to edit. Except, here's the kicker: I had no idea that I could get my stuff back. I didn't realize stuff was going into the Trash, so I thought every accidental deletion was the final word on whatever object I'd nuked. I needlessly rebuilt so many objects. ![]() |

I have accidentally deleted a few things over time, its pretty easy. I usually feel the urge to throw a tantrum and bash my keyboard against the monitor. Fortunately I discovered my TRASH folder, and have recovered many an object. Two helpful hints:
1) NAME things. As soon as you make it, give it a name. That way you can find it in your inventory when you delete it, take it, or accidentaly shoot it off world. Name everything you make. 2) LINK things. It makes it easier to put it back, and you only have to name the linked thing. So link-em-up and give em a moniker. Makes life easier. Buster |

More fun if you accentally make it phys and have it roll down a cliff into the ocean
![]() Or outsmarting yourself : "hmm I made it phys.. well I'll just leave it in edit and UNLINK that prim then put it back" After all the seperate prims finish showering across your plot you can sit back and think "well my wasn't that boneheaded?" _____________________

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.
My all time favorite was when I was trying to loan half of my land to the Elves and when I hit the yes button big hunks of my house flew into outer space! I still haven't found all of it. |

Oy. I've done that a number of times, each time crying-fit worthy.
Another good-bad one is if you work together with a freind and do drag-copy on one of their pieces without the proper permissions being set. It makes it so neither the original nor the copy can be modified... now imagine you copy a whole wall or floor of a building you eventualy need to sell over to someone... oy... it means alot of rebuilding and frustration. -Ghoti _____________________

The thing that sticks in my mind the most is when I was re-texturing a house. I'd almost finished, then forgot to click *select texture* and retextured the whole lot in transparent glass by mistake.
Delete house, pull out copy and start over <sigh> A builder I ain't.. ![]() _____________________

Yeah, I do that and tenants do that.
Put the house on "lock" in the object edit menu. It means you get angry when it doesn't do something when you've forgotten you've locked it, but it means you won't move it around or delete it by accident, it will prompt you with a message. _____________________

Deleted half my house not once but twice. Accidentally released my land. Lost countless folders in objects. If anyone says they haven't ever done anything like this it would most likely be because they never interacted with anything.

<------- Deleted my entire dock while hubby and I were standing on it.

I've deleted countless things I didn't mean to, accidentally gripped the wrong bit and flung them off into neighboring sims, turned an entire house clear and managed to somehow unlink it while it was clear, (had to use Return all objects on that one since I didn't yet know about Highlight Alpha) and more than a few times changed the texture settings on an entire build because I forgot to check Select Texture. In fact, I do those bonehead moves so often that I now only link small bits of my build together at a time, (only the bits that will have the same texturing) so that I don't end up with my entire store missing or hanging out in Orient chatting with the other builds when it should be working.
What I wouldn't do for a big UNDO button on the edit window. _____________________

Delete house, pull out copy and start over <sigh> A builder I ain't.. ![]() I've been there. Back in beta, I tried to re-texture my little newbie cabin. This was the result. Back then, we were not able to create a copy by pulling an item out of inventory. The picture was taken yesterday, the first time in nearly 2 years I pulled the cabin out of inventory. Messing up that bad was actually my motivation to build a new home from scratch. _____________________
