Lag - what does it look/feel like ?

I'm very new to the game and was wondering - when I'm in a badly lagged sim everything seems to be like slow-motion. I can hardly move, typing is slow, everything is like molasses.

Is this the way lag manifests itself. Since I can't see how other people experience it, I was wondering if people could describe the effects of lag on the client.

Thanks.

that's pretty much it. remember though there's three kinds of lag. there's server lag where the machines that run SL can't keep up, usually if there's a ton of people and scripts in an area. there's frame rate lag where your computer and video card can't keep up, usually if there's a ton of textures and shapes and particles and other visual stuff going on. and there's network lag where your connection can't keep up, usually if you move into a new area quickly and need to download alot of new stuff. don't blame all lag on Linden. :D

It feels like a cheap, bad hangover from drinking Boone's Farm wine all night or from drinking MD 20/20. If its really bad it feels like Thunderbird with a Colt 45 chaser. :p

And the one Dale is describing is Server lag, which is not a good thing. Means a server isn't handling something like it should, or someone's overtaxing it.
