They emptied clothing and the contents of drawers and cupboards all over the floor, sprayed obscene graffiti across the living room walls and hid expensive household items such as the TV to make it look like a bone fide burglary.
When the Jeffries returned home they unsurprisingly thought they had been the victims of a robbery, until Mr Shaw and Mr Pebble jumped out of a cupboard and announced it was all a joke that was being broadcast as part of their programme, The Asylum Show.
Mr Jeffries said: "My wife and I had been to the cinema and came home to find we had been burgled, or so we thought. The window was smashed and there were obscenities on the walls. They had hidden the TV and other items to make it look as if we had been robbed. They emptied the cupboards and our clothes were strewn all over.
