Abuse of Neg Ratings...

Ok, I know that Neg ratings are not that big of a deal, but I know that I for one do look at people's ratings when I think unacceptable behavior may come from them.

I think that if someone GIVES alot of Neg ratings it's just as bad as GETTING them!

There really needs to be something done about this, maybe a loss of stipends for every neg rating you pass out, or some kind of legitimate comment that goes with it and has to be approved ... I dunno... SOMETHING! lol

I sign on to my email and notice I was neg rated while off line.... (on the behavior portion) So I IM this person, asking why? Well it was because her BOYFRIEND and I had a disagreement THROUGH PM on the FORUMS!

omg I love everyone in SL! lol

THEN I get bitched at for 20 minutes, and comes to find out she was mistaken, and thought I argued with him on the public forums... LMAO
and even if I did, Should I be neg rated in game for that? Then she has the nerve to call me immature... pfft!

Then she claims her BF sends her ALL IMS he gets in and out of game... Didn't I just see another thread saying that was illegal?

You got an email about your neg rating?!?!?! Mine just got snuck in while I was offline. And you can always neg rate her back and agree to remove hers when she removes yours.

just so. i place a LOT more value on the number of negative ratings a person has given than i do the number that they have. it was the first unique inworld social aspect i learned.

i've also noticed that we are very much more prone to keeping secrets than in real life and that we're generally a lot nicer to others than our temperments allow in real life. mind that i'm talking about inworld behaviour. the forums are a different environment altogether.

She offered to remove it, and I am not a very vengeful person so I don't have any "urges" to slap one on her lol... I think I will just leave it there in rememberance of petty actions from a SL player

I can't stop her from doing it lol I wasn't around when she gave it to me, why do I have to be around for her to take it away?

Had I been a vengeful person I would mentioned her name among other tnings... but the abuse of neg ratings seriously needs to stop...

I see people that have given 100's of neg ratrings...

you would think then that they would have 100s of neg ratings and would be too poor to afford more.

Kasandra, you can change your preferences ingame so that you will get your IM sent to your email and it will also send a message when you get a rating (positive or negative).

As for some ideas on how to change the rating system: Maybe make each rating cost 100L and the cost goes to the person that receives it. That way, those who want to use all their alternate accounts to neg rate someone, will really think it through if their anger is worth giving the player 300L per account worth of ratings. Also, if a person's behavior is the trait that is at fault, it will make it so it will be more likely for a person to rate only that in order not to give him/her more Lindens.

This isn't the best suggestion, but it's the best I can think of this late at night.

Thanks for the info, will do. As for the idea, I would rather see the money get eaten by the game than given to the person you are neg rating. And I think 100 per rating would be enough to keep people from just tossing neg ratings around. But then we will get posts like "Is justice only for the wealthy?"

Just an update, this person removed the neg rating this morning, I find it very respectable. I was a bit hard on her due to her actions, but I am not one to hold a grudge... all is forgotten in my mind, and I hope that the abuse of neg rating finds some type of closure in the near future...

After 10 months in SL, I have just recieved my first ever neg rates - a triple, no less... by someone flying by the show-and-tell I was quietly observing last night.

When IM'ed for an explanation, her response was "live with it, leave me alone". According to her profile, she has been IW for one month, and had given six other negs before she picked on me. Presumably I was a random target, but the fact that i was only her third triple-neg victim made me feel kinda singled out.

Does anyone have an insight into the mentality of people who do this? To me this is like slapping the face of a random stranger as you walk down the street. I just dont get it.

I'll say this before, and I'll say this again.

Neg ratings should be done within one meter of the AV, face to face, so to speak. Small-minded people neg rate in alt accounts thinking that they are "hurting" you and hiding their true identity.

Any alt accounts, and I don't care if they are lifetime accounts that hold precious land, or $9.95 accounts that are created on the whim -- any account with only neg ratings reflected in the profile should be automatically closed. Beginning today. No advanced notice, no warning letter -- just close them. There's been enough complaints by the community about these accounts.

We all know why they create them, we all know why they use them. It's not harrassment. They're just a small mosquito thinking that they're putting the "big hurt" on someone. Sad to say, they're just showing a huge character flaw behind the monitor.
