If you ever get itching acne on your neck, don't scratch it.

I have a staph infection and it is the most horrible thing I've ever had.

What's the message? Does god think I look better with a antibiotic-resistant lump the size of a golf ball on my face?

Luckily, it seems that my body is fighting it off this morning. It is about half the size it was yesterday. I had never paid attention to staph infections, but they are terrible. They can kill you.

Aww dude, Sorry for the infection. :( I had a nice juicy one on my knee last year, it got to where I couldn't even walk (I had no Idea what it was...looked like a 3 inch zit on the side of my kneecap). So I go to a doctor and he pops a lil' hole in the side of the zit...then quickly bends my knee! About 3 ounces of wholesome puss and bloody goodness squirted across the room, painting a nice 15" Rorschach pattern on his nice clean wall...Then it took a month of antibiotics to finally get it all out of my system...staph and strep are teh worstest

If the lord was handing out bacterial infections for sinning, you'd be at the free clinic all the time.

I am so sorry to hear that Neehai. Staph is a horrible infection. Papi (Darko) has been in the hospital 5 times with staph. The worst place he had it was in his eye and that was a very frightening experience. He also had it on his leg and had to get surgery. I feel for you because it is so painful and such a scary infection. I am sure you are on a very strong antibiotic. Just take it easy and obviously do not touch the infected area. ;)

I can't figure out why Jeska hasnt' moved this to Hotline to Lindens yet. Maybe she's out with a Staph infection herself.

Once the infection clears up, Neehai, I'd highly recommend starting a regimen of liquid acidophilus. Although antibiotics are great at what they do, they also kill a lot of the beneficial bacteria in your gut, which leads to other health issues down the road. I buy the liquid form in the health food section of our local HEB, so I'm sure it shouldn't be too difficult to find. It runs about $8/bottle, and a bottle lasts about six weeks or so.

It's so funny that I worried for years about all the bacteria that I was exposed to in Africa. I'm a pretty clumsy person, so that's a LOT of bacteria.

All this time the worst bacteria in the world are in US Hospitals and gyms.

Dude totally. Hospitals are off limits to me. I cannot even go into a hospital now because the risk of getting staph is so freakin high. My body is not capable of fighting off the infection.

On a somewhat related note I love hospital vending machines. I am convinced that the sodas and snacks are more delicious. If I could go into to hospitals I would live out of the emergency room vending machine! :D

No doubt! That's where all of the super-resistant strains of bacteria evolve.

If there really were a God, I imagine that Alby would be at the clinic with a massive case of oozing rectal secondary syphillis each and every week: "No, doctor, I don't KNOW how I got it, I've never even had sex!" :p

Staph and strep resistant bacteria are a direct result of general practioners (especially), and other doctors handing out antibiotics like candy to people with a runny nose.

In case there is anyone here that doesn't know this- antibiotics don't work on viral infections like the most colds or flus. The definitive test is a culture of the infected area, and by the time you get the results (they have to have time to grow), you'll be almost better.

I've seen 2 cases in 15 years working in the medical field of (forgive the spelling )necretizing faciatitis (flesh eating bacteria). It's about the worse thing I've ever seen...and that's from a run away staph infection.

Take good care of that thing Neehai. My dad had a cut on his thumb get staph when I was a kid. Not to alarm you but it damn near killed him. He was in the hospital for quite a while. My brother and I weren't even allowed into the room with him, I guess because we were kids. We could only look at him through a window and wave.

Well they lanced it today. New antibiotics. It's looking promosing.

Luckily the doc says I am in excellent health otherwise so healing is not a problem.

?!? They just got around to lancing it?

I went through something very similar to Xto's episode when I was in college. Best we can figure, I caught it from a Wolf Spider bite. Anyway, I was fortunately at home with my parents for the weekend...went to bed with what I thought was an unusual zit on my inside shin, and woke up howling at the top of my lungs just before dawn.

The parents get me to the doc ASAP, he takes one look, doses me with a happy pill, and starts pulling out chainsaws and tiretools. He also puts a cloth over my eyes and kicks the parents out, so that nobody but he and his assistant have to deal with the spewing grossness, of which there was apparently plenty.

He cored a dime-sized hole in my leg all the way down to the bone, packed it with antiseptic gauze, and gave me enough antibiotics to cure every case of the clap caught in WW II.

Most miserable two weeks of my life, hobbling around campus with a cane.

I guess I'm just surprised Neehai's doctors waited as long as they did...but I remember hearing now that most good doctors really, really want to avoid cutting of any kind as long as there's another option...

Well, I went pretty early. It was just starting to form as a hard lump under the skin.

They gave me antibiotics and told me to put warm compresses on it for 48 hours to try and bring it to the surface. Today the doctor decided it was "ripe" enough to lance.

I tell you, he really seemed to enjoy his job. After the first incision he was says, "hmmm." This is really not something you like to hear doctors say. After he squeezed and poked at my jaw he says, "Oh yea, there we go," with a rather giddy tone in his voice. Who am I to say? If your job is cutting huge amounts of puss out of my skin, I am glad that you enjoy your work.
