A serious "off topic" forum, and a casual off topic forum. The serious one can have all the political shit and other crap half of us are sick of, and the casual one can have all the fun discussions.

This has recently turned into a pulpit for repetitive anti US rhetoric. While I sometimes fundamentally agree with some of it, I think that it has outgrown its confines and a seperate category is in order. We used to have one. Why are we going backwards?

i totally agree. the best part is that this thread is probably going to turn into political pissing in a few more posts.

I'm agnostic about it, but keep in mind that the last time LL re-arranged all of the forum categories, thousands of posts were lost.

I believe we still have the ability to NOT read a thread if we so choose. Nuff said?

To give you an honest answer... most of you don't know me in-world but this is pretty much what I am like... nutty and likes to have fun with people!!! For some reason it has never really translated to the forums.

I am really tired of all of the serious stuff anyways. Same ole cast of characters and nobody is ever gonna change their mind... lol.

LOL - True Story:

The house that hubby and I bought in S. Florida was owned by this guy who used to own a pawn shop. Suddenly one day, the guy up and disappears (actually moves to S. America somewhere) and leaves his wife and kids and two morgages on the house that are worth more than the house is. We learned all this because they sold the house to us for less than they owed and had to negotiate with the morgage companies at the last minute to get sign off.

Well it turns out that not only did this guy owe the morgage companies, but he owed some other people as well. And one day they showed up at the house after hubby and I had moved in. Not the sort of people that I'd argue with. One was about 6 ft 5 and 350 lbs of solid muscle. I'm not making this up, his name was Vinnie.

They were polite but firm in wanting to know if we personally knew the guy and they apparently also asked neighbors.

Here's a thought; when we started to have the forums flooded with economics another category was created, 'nuff said?

even though the OT forum isn't anywhere near as busy as General and you can go a decent length of time before a topic disappears to "Page 2 and Beyond...", it would be interesting to see what would happen if we were to have the serious/not-so-serious OT choices.

i imagine that the overall tone would encourage relative growth and expression.

we'll still have comedy in all forums no matter how many sections and sub-sections there are, but still.. i suppose it would be nice to enter a forum knowing which basic style to expect.

That's exactly what I'm saying Cybin. The volume may not be the greatest but it's enough to justify it. "Don't read the threads"...I knew that would come up...hey, that's hard to do. Really--how many times have you stayed online messing with forums because just as you're about to log off, you just HAVE to read that thread with the stupid title?? (Ok if you never did this, you don't count!) Besides, it's still a little annoying to see the "Evil Empire destroys innocent poor people to get another billion in the bank" or "Tree hater plans to level rainforests for entertainment" and such as you go looking for threads that won't make your head explode, and sometimes you just KNOW what it's about.

It wouldn't be an issue to me if the discussions were civil, respectful, and didn't condescend to everyone who disagrees with whomever. The condescension is probably the most annoying (and popular) thing with the political crap. That's one thing I don't do, unless I'm responding to a complete moron. Geez, one type of philosophy isn't always the "right" one for every situation anyway. I wish more people understood that concept.
