The Darkwood Shadow - Volume 1, Issue 1

Shedding Light on Darkwood

Recently, the Darkwood community expanded and is stepping out of the shadows so to speak.

For me, speaking as both Darkwood community member (I own the Brightwillow Fyreworkes Shoppe) and as Second Life resident in general, Darkwood (in Dore) has always been an amazing place.

When I first saw Darkwood some months ago, I immediately knew this would be my home and was grateful to be accepted into the community with open arms. It is a compelling place, a cozy hamlet tucked away from the mainstream and complete with dock, market, inn, church, clock tower, smithy and all manner of interesting shops.

At the heart of it all are the good people who made the vision real, people like town elders Ama Omega and Aurican Sunchaser, and residents Yuki Sunshine, Alek Wu, Taessa Weaver, Sassy Apple, Skippy Powers, Bino Arbuckle and the seldom seen, venerable Nada Epoch and Nexus Nash.

Of late, there's been an incredible surge of building and creativity with the Darkwood expansion.

Ama Omega has expanded the Darkwood town proper and new citizens like Soren Romulus and David Cartier have taken up residence. There is still room for others.

Maxen Underthorn has created an incredibly detailed and beautiful palace that must be seen to be believed.

Alek Wu and Skippy Powers have been working on the "Evil Fort" which grows more evil by the day, and they've also set up a stage by the riverside and an open market and have invited folks to come put their appropriately-themed wares up for sale.

Aurican Sunchaser is working on his grand castle. Within, he has created an amazing moving floor a la 13 Ghosts. Check it out! It's a masterpiece.

Taessa Weaver is currently constructing an ancient Greek/Roman ruins-type area which looks like it will be quite dazzling.

Yuki Sunshine has built a unique tree village and has spaces at present for any who wish to create a residence or shop in the branches of Acacia. I have opened a shop there called The Bee's Knees Honey Hive.

And Eve Cartier has moved her beautiful tavern to Darkwood where it appears quite at home. With the addition of her Wild Boar Tavern, we are developing quite a few places to meet and pass time with friends.

As for me, I'm working on my Smugglers' Den on the coast of the Evil Fort. I hope everyone will stop by and IM me with some feedback.

Recently, Yuki Sunshine organized a raffle to raise building funds, and many Darkwood members contributed items for prizes. The community sends out much thanks to all who bought tickets.

Overall, Darkwood is seeing some remarkable change, yet remains the uniquely-themed, tree-lined, cozy community it has always been.

Stop by and say hello. You won't be disappointed!

For the Darkwood Shadow, this is Merriman Brightwillow wishing you the best in all lives.

(Contact Ama Omega if you're interested in becoming part of Darkwood.)

(Note: The Darkwood Shadow is currently accepting submissions of Darkwood-themed fiction, essays and poetry. All submissions remain the property of the writer who gives the Darkwood Shadow permission to reprint them and to display them.)
