Would you like your avatar to depict photographically your true facial features?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think I'll ever understand why when someone asks, "Can you help make my av look like me?". To me, the whole point of SL is to be able to do things I can't do in RL. I already look like me in RL. The last thing I'd want to do is look like me in SL as well.

I was thinking about this Chosen...and i think for some people (*coughmecough*) having an element of our RL selves in SL makes the suspention of disbelif a little better. For example, being able to fly around a nearly arbitrary fantasy world may seem too distant and virtual to be fun...but if you build a model of your RL backyard...flying around it can give you a liberating feeling you may have craved all your life. Making our models looks like ourselves helps some people feel like it's THEM experiencing the SL world rather than some avatar. -aimee |

Ehe, no. There are too many opportunities of doing something different with your av... why should I try to recreate something I see everyday?

I hadn't really considered that complete fantasy may be too distant for some people. As I'm not one of those people I can't really understand it, but I can at least accept it. Thanks for the great counterpoint, Aimee, as always. _____________________

Maybe ... but to be honest, I'm more than happy with the way my avie looks now, and I doubt that making her look like me would improve that much... apart from the few staircases I can't climb now cos I'm way too tall...

Not everyone's as hot as you though Eggy. Some of us have to work on our appearance.

My av looks pretty much the way I do in RL, and I've wanted to go photorealistic but my one attempt was TERRIFYING! Oh. My. God. I felt like leatherface!
Siobhan: When will stairbuilders learn! I'm 6'5" in RL so I just brought that over to SL with me, and now I'm punished for it. /me cry On an unrelated note, I turn 34 today. YOU! GIVE ME PRESENTS! AND YOU TOO! ;) |

Yes, Nemar, it can. You just have to properly stretch a picture of your face over the face skin texture. Check out Ryen Jade in world for an incredibly good example. Also, the picture on this guy's blog certainly looks like a photorealistic av:
