Maybe I'm missing something, but why have events dwindled down to a mere 7 or 8 a day? Looking back at August-October, event times were crowded and very active. Let's see more events, people! New people as well should join in and give it a shot--it's easy and fun!

Honestly, I think that a lot of people who normally do events are busy re-doing their places to get ready for Jan 12th. Plus many have been on vacation and are just getting settled back down. I bet we will start to see a lot more events popping back up over the next few weeks, and even more after the Jan 12th date. That's my thought at least.

agreed. we did one tech talk over the holiday but decided we needed this week to take a break and consolidate. we've already scheduled for the 13th and will be back weekly after that.

Pendari, exactly! The new Bhodi Tree Gallery will be up and running very soon - and then the weekly events will return. In fact, we're adding events to make sure that the Gallery is a productive and useful place, and not just another pretty prim farm!

I suspect that now that thr experienced players do not need to constantly earn lindens/attract ratings to cover taxes, the motivations for doing events and meeting new people have changed a little too. It has been quite a sudden dip in events.
Christmas break may also have had an effect.

Jai!! Contrary to previous belief, I must say I host events because I -love- to host events. If all events provided was the occasional rating I get at the events I host, that'd even be more than I'd be asking for. I have a terrible, terrible fear of stages in my first life, and worse news is I plan to be a teacher (eh, I take that back, that's one of the best newses I have for my life, hehe). Part of events for me is getting up on stage and relating with people I don't know. Mentoring especially is a perfect outlet for me to test my ability to understand others' questions and insights into concerns and new ideas. And beyond all this, events make Second Life more enjoyable--and I'm very pro "making second life a good game." So it isn't all about taxes. People like to host events.
Or maybe I'm just crazy?

Before the month of December, I was trying to schedule at least one event a week, usually a trivia event at my place in Tan, though I was doing Mentor events, too. December was really a wash for me, SL-wise, though, due to holiday- and illness-related issues. I also have to wonder if the Lindens lowering the amount of money given for non-Mentor events from $500 to $250 has made some people change their minds about giving non-Mentor events. The money has never been a factor for me since I have always given away $1K at my events, and I continue to do that still; the dwell will usually cover the extra $250, anyway, and I like to give away money. I hope to have at least one or two events a week because it's fun to give people something to do. It's also nice to get dwell and give people an excuse to visit Tan. Dae, I think you'd make a good teacher.

SLRA Events

I agree that the combination of the holidays and the sudden lack of a financial incentive curbed the number of events for a while.
That said, I think we'll see a resurgence soon. January is a boring month!
Haney just posted that racing events will get the full $1000 in funding again! Yay!
BTW, the vehicle park HAS already hosted quite a few events using Second Life Racing Association's own race checking system, and we plan on continuing to do so since the Linden start gates, while cool, do nothing to prevent cheats.
If you'd like to run events using the system, you can join SLRA and we'll provide you with the whole setup!
We're aiming to provide at least one racing event and one dogfighting event every weekend, but could use some more help running them and setting up new courses.
Contact any of the following if you are interested:
Satai Diaz (event leader extraordinaire) Athos Murphy Ananda Sandgrain Garth Fairlight Xylor Baysklef (the mastermind who scripted the system)
