This is a pretty cool tool: http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm

It uses your Gmail account as a virtual drive, giving you an extra gig of space(or more, depending on how many accounts you have).

Too bad it can only be 10mb at a time as that's all gmail can support, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Am I thinking right that that could be used as a shared drive (if you gave others the gmail username/password) ?

Just keep in mind, your account could go away at any time, so I wouldn't put anything too important up there =)
