In related news... http://www.salon.com/mwt/wire/2004/06/05/naacp/I don't know if y'all can access that site, as I have a subscription, and I'll bet many of you don't... Anyway, it says that the Catholic University of America isn't going to recognize a student chapter of the NAACP. Why not? Why, they've just got so many groups that work for racial minority issues now, that they just don't need another one. Yeah, they've got two. That's quite enough, thank you. I mean. I'm sorry. IT'S THE FARKIN' NAACP!!! This isn't some irrelevant fringe group! "Pi Kappa Delta, welcome to campus. We don't have a glut of sororities and fraternities, nosirreee, we've only got a couple dozen. Hm? Black people? We've got plenty of those, don't we? No thanks, NAACP..." Sheesh...

Some have said this is because a chapter of the NAACP recently supported a 'pro-abortion' group, even the the NAACP as a whole takes no official stance on the abortion issue.

Its probably about abortion. Catholic U cannot give the appearance of being pro-choice because, well they are Catholic. Its probably not politics or a racial issue, just simply belief.

From: someone Originally posted by Teeny Leviathan Its probably not politics That's funny, Teeny. Of COURSE it's politics! But, regardless of whether it's politics or not, the Catholic church is a private organization. The NAACP often does more harm than good when they try to get heavy-handed. Back when racial quotas were a hot-button issue, NAACP representatives visited a mica mine in the area where I grew up. (For those who don't know, mica-schist is a rock that is used, among other things, as insulation.) They came in one afternoon and confronted the owner. Explained to him that he was required to meet the racial quotas. Since he had (50) epmployees, and the quota was (10%), he had to hire enough colored people to have at least (5) colored employees, or they'd file a lawsuit against him. (The heavy-handed part.) So, he told them to wait until the end of the day, when all of his truck drivers came back in at the end of the day. He counted the first (5) that walked in the door, and handed pink slips to the other (20). I don't know the exact percentages of the quotas, or the exact size of the company, so the numbers here aren't precise, but you get the point. Private businesses and organizations tend to get their backs up when "special interest groups" start trying to throw their weight around.

Bill Cosby PWNS! http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38565(Mildly-relevant NAACP topic--but perhaps Bill is right here, and NAACP should be supporting what he's saying rather what they are doing?)

But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

From: someone Originally posted by Grim Lupis Of COURSE it's politics! Gotta disagree. Catholic University is supported by the church. Bottom line: CU is bound to abide by church doctrine. Its VERY unlikely that politics has anything to do with it.
