Hatred of flying in 1.2

Can I have a preference option to go back to 1.1 flying?

I really hate landing when I bump ground or an object.. or flying when I jump.

I like it being a toggle with F... that way I know what mode I am in. I know the fly button shows this, but having it randomly (so many ways it gets turned on and off now it SEEMS random) toggle on and off drives me crazt. Especially at 700m and above where flying means you zip around at 100 miles an hour and fall to your doom.

This has to be my biggest interface complaint about 1.2.. so at least that should make the Lindens happy. :-)

I like the old way better too. Did anyone really ask for flying changes we see in 1.2?

The going rate seems to be $1,150 :)

And yes I hate the change too.

I haven't noticed the stop flying when hit object thingy, but the flying when i accidently hold jump for too long is anoying, if i wanted to fly i'd hit F in mid jump.

Should be changed or at the least toggled.

I noticed that if I try to stop flying at anything over a few feet high, I bounce back into the air. This is not good.

Fly on collision == rather highly annoying. Any benefit gained from this is pretty small in comparison, IMO.

yeah. I hate the new way too.

The most annoying thing for me is that half the time you stop flying, press F thinking it'll land you, and you actually fly up instead... kinda like the toggle is broken and it doesnt know you're already flying.

Yup. Flying and landing in 1.2 has reduced us to all looking like newbs again :)

Catherine Omega: Yes, but lots of stuff isn't listed. "Making UI harder to use than ever" and "removing all the necessary status icons" things.... there's nothing like that in the release notes. :)

I have no problems with the new controls, and probably prefer them. I jump with a keypress, I fly with a keyhold - seems entirely straightforward to me and I have not yet flown when i didn't want to.

The new easy landing is fine too, makes for some nicely rapid arrivals now i am used to it.

I also prefer the new flying method <g> Now i can just use Page up and Page down for all my flying instead of the old way.... Hit F to start flying, realise i'm alrady in chat... delete that F... press Escape.... fly... go to land... realise i'm somehow in chat mode again and miss my target...

The only problem I do have with it is that sometimes i'll press Page Down to touch down and land and i'll suddenly bounce back up and be flying again.

i like landing when i page down to the ground. i do sometimes jump into flight when i just want to jump. maybe that timer could be extended a bit.

I don't understand why people needed the new jump-to-fly feature. Did people have a problem finding the Home key?

If I press a Jump key, I expect to jump, not fly up several meters. And I really hate trying to land with these new features... half the time my av pops back into the air for some reason. Other times my av stops flying simply because it's bumped an object. Absolutely bloody annoying.

I have a feature suggestion. Jump key makes you jump. Fly key toggles flying. I can't think of an easier system. Why muck it up?

Im not sure, but it looks like the new update today reverted back to the older, better way of flying.

well in interface design terms the new way is flawed. Basically you take somethin that has a direct involvement in how yer avatar moves (especially at altitude) and then you make thae movement itself change the state... it makes for a real mess where there isn't any easy way to know what state you are in without taking the time to check.

jumping to fly is annoying because it removes any point of having two seperate keys and can be very hazardous at 500m
we have an f key to fly... mapping the jump key to fly as well is a mistake.

Also automated landings are a mistake as you can whap into things and end up NOT flying when you think you are and theres no clear indicator it happened besides the fact that you look like an idiot walking into a rock for 20 seconds

combine this with the massive interface lag upon entering a crowded area and it becomes WAY too easy to slam into random people as you're trying to land or keep tryin to stop flying and making yer self jump back into the air etc... its jus messy and there was honestly no point to make it an enforced change when for most people the old system worked better.

It didnt change.

Not to change the subject, but why are the new release notes so elusive now? They used to be right there for us to look at as soon as the update downloaded. Where are they now?

The release notes are in the installation directory which is C:\Program Files\SecondLife for most people.

On the other hand, if you put it somewhere else, it will be in that location. Obviously. :-)

I don't like it, and I really don't appreciate that they just dropped it on us, without giving us an option to turn it off, and have been conspicuously silent about it.

I have a feeling that there are instances where someone at Linden Lab thought that something would be a good idea, and just went ahead and did it without giving a single thought to what impact it might have. This seems to be happening more frequently.

Case in point: Left click on object while you are above a certain altitude and it will *force* you to fly. DUUUUUUH?!?!?!? Whose idea was that? It is universally hated by everyone I've heard talking about it, and Linden Lab hasn't said a damn thing.

Lindens. Come on. This is stupid. Stop making these unilateral decisions.

Actually Huns I think that happened as a work-around of some other bug/problem.

Just a guess though. It still sucks.

i'm not changing the subject either. but yes maxx, the zoom overhead an a twenty degree angle to hell every time i want to edit something is the most useless and annoying feature of our interface.

am i not intelligent enough to be standing/floating exactly where i want to be to see what i'm doing when i edit something. PLEASE AT LEAST make this an optional "feature."

on another not the subject: loki, i noticed that the release notes for .5 were posted before the world even went down. if you looked at the forum just before, or during the update, that thread would have been marked as old. so when you looked for it after the update, it would've been easy to miss.

don't feel bad, i still haven't seen the town meeting thread. it obviously fell off my screen and is sitting in this pile of paperwork i should be doing.
