An article regarding Griefers. It briefly mentions "The Second Life Herald", but it is overall interesting reading. "As online-game companies court new and wider audiences, many are running into an old problem: "griefers," a small but seemingly irradicable set of players who want nothing more than to murder, loot and otherwise frustrate the heck out of everyone else." .... The best way to beat a griefer is to completely ignore them.
Like it says in the National Parks; Don't feed the bears. A good rule of thumb if you don't want them coming back at night, which also seems to be when the griefers like to attack in SL. They surely realize that no LL presence at night equals feeding time.
I have been guilty of wrangling with them in the forums, however I generally adhere to the philosophy of ignore and/or report when they strike in world.
Good article Tito, thanks for the link.

I experienced some minor griefers last night while shopping. A group of 4 or 5 pirates came into the store and started swatting myself and the designer, all while in pirate character which was funny for the first 10 seconds. I started doing the whole "stay behind me I'll protect you!" thing to join the theme, and attached my melee combat and knocked them out of the store, only to have them return whining to me about it and saying they'd abuse report me if I did it again. I apologized to the "Captain". lol Should I have knocked them out? Probably not. Should I have just ignored them? I did for about 15-20 seconds, but they just kept going at it so I got into "character" also. I learned my lesson: Just because someone is griefing you, doesn't mean they can handle being griefed back.

LOL, that's turning the tables... arrr matey!Sometimes I think it would be funny if, in addition to the "Mute" command, there were some sort of magical button -- how about "BAN-ISH!" -- to send GREEFER KIN to another "dimension" -- in that, they could see you and think they were affecting you, but if you had them on this kind of "Ubermute List", they'd pass through you like a ghost repeatedly and nothing they did would distract you from building the next great SL ball of yarn(next?!). Flashmobs inworld may bother some -- they don't concern me until, say, some of the people involve start shooting and hurling verbal abuse. I know I've partaken in a few myself (i.e. mosh-hopping, all wearing a specific silly attachment, running in circles, etc.) but I like to make it clear to bystanders that if this is bothering them, for them to please let me and the others doing it know, so that we're aware.

Always works on TV.

My wings used to be loaded up with orbiters and anti-push scripts, but once you "get into it" with someone you lose the moral high ground. So if someone griefs me I don't fight back, I just report them.
Fortunately I am RARELY griefed. Well, except by my friends *cough* Dragen *Cough* Ezhar *cough* Casval *cough*

From: Torley Torgeson "The secret of Aimee's wings" Film at 11 There are so many scripts tucked inside my wings you have no idea. I think they account for about 80% of the lag in SL. -aimee

the thing about that pirate thing is I was friends with the owner of that store, and I adn't bothered her in a couple weeks, se we gathered up some people and went over there in pirate gear, not intneding to do any harm, other than talk in pirate jargon and run around aimlessly, HARDLY griefing, mostly just funny. hell, if you hadn't startted knocking the guys so hard they had to reset SL, we would of played along with you, hell, I love it when people play along. I however do not enjoy being hurled 3 sims away when I am out goofing around and not even displaying a weapon.
if any of the guys on my crew had a weapon out and was using it without provocation, I got mad, I've been around SL since april and really would NOT like to get banned
