A heartfelt thank you for handling a very strange (for me) situation tonight on my property so quickly and being so kind to me. I was lagged, pissed and disoriented after the incident and I may not have expressed my gratitude.

Also - thank you for not laughing at me for not knowing what to do, but in all the time I've been in SL, I have never even given out a negative rating let alone abuse reported someone.

Also - a question to those that know more about weapons than I. I have my land set to "safe". How was it that this person could shoot me on my own land and it have the effect of completely blowing me off my island and 850 m up in the air (to the top of my tower)?

What kind of weapon does that?

Also - very ashamed to ask, but how does one get out of a cage? :o

I tried to delete it but it did not work until the Lindens showed up and then lo and behold, I could delete it. I felt like the perverbal person who keeps hearing a noise in the car and then takes it to the mechanic who the car works perfectly for and the mechanic thinks your a nut case.

Anyhow - thanks again all you guys your wonderful. :)

Sounds as if you were shot by a push weapon. There are many of them inworld, and instead of doing damage to your avatar, they push you.

As to getting out of the cage, zoom your camera to the ground or a prim outside of it, then choose to sit there.

You're most welcome!

Weapons can have push scripts in them which in effect launch you sims away or they can orbit you or make you have the inability to move. I have no idea how the scripting works in them, but I know thats what they do regardless of whether land is set to safe or damage. Its very annoying nonetheless. cages are pesky little creatures. They can be deleted I know that much.

well...

The only way I know how to get out of a cage when your on your land is to click on the ground or some object outside of the cage and click sit. Was the weapon in question a cage that knocked you accross the sim and further? I had a person use that weapon on me, and other people, and it probably was the same person.

A physics enabled object can hit you and impart momentum to you. The llPushObject command can give you a large push. To maximize the effect of the llPushObject command the script using that command can be placed in a prim that tracks your position giving repeated pushes. The "safe" setting has to do with reducing your health points for use in shooting games and such. The "safe" setting keeps avs from being reduced in health to the point that they "die" and get teleported back to their home, and has no effect at all on the llPushObject command's ability to knock you into space.

Getting out of cages
12-22-2004 19:05
As previously mentioned you can get out of cage by sitting on the cage. Sometimes troublemakers will use a script that takes control of the sit here option, replacing the text with something like "No Way Out". You can get someone to offer you teleport. You can teleport somewhere. You can use the sit edit trick to get through anything: create a box inside the cage, sit on it, edit your way through the box walls.

Thanks all for the responses. I was blissfully ignorant of weapons stuff and I thought that if you set your land to safe no weapon would work. :o duh.

I did teleport out of the cage once but could not get back home and had to log off and back on. By then the griefer had locked my friends in cages. I was not aware of the sit option, which I will use if this ever happens again.

Thanks for the advice.

Jennyfur isn't just a rose, she's a fucking dozen of a dozen roses.

I am glad to hear how this was handled... except for the fact that you didn't have me, Chromal, Oz, Kex, AdamZ, eltee, and the rest of the #secondlife crew there when this was going on. THEN is would have been a TRUE ass whooping.

The thought of Rheya in a cage is somewhat appealing - however - the thought of watching Rheya bust out from said situation is more appealing. I'm sorry I missed that hot WWF action. Overall, yet another sitch wonderfully handled by Live Help, the Lindens and the system. Granted, there are problems within our "system"... but situations like this that get resolved the right way (Who can argue with a bad guy getting his ass wupped?)... continues my belief that things are headed in the right direction.

Now, just lose the 2.26ghz servers with a null FSB speed. :-)

To quote Empire Strikes Back...

"I love you."

"I know."

Prove it.

I got hit with this too. I believe the weapon is called a Webslinger. I clicked edit on the cage as it was launching me into the air. It did two things, it stopped the cage and it gave me the name of the owner. I used this to file an abuse report.

I asked if there was some reason why he shot me. His answer was he has been trying to get kicked off for a few weeks. o.0 I think the Lindens need to grant his request. Terminate with extreme prejidious
