Avatar Contests going down the drain?

Well being an avatar maker myself, I enjoy the avatar contests on SL. Lately (or for a while) all avatar contests consist of :

COME WEAR YOUR MOST (insert stupid adjective here) AVATAR. WIN MONEY!!!
PRIZES ARE $200 FOR MALE AND FEMALE BECAUSE WE MAKE A LOT MORE ON DWELL.

DANCE AT OUR CLUB TOO AND WAIT 2 HOURS BEFORE WE ACTUALLY START THE CONTEST!!!

I find these ploys stupid. These days there are rarely any pure avatar contests without the stupid obligations of going to a club. Any thoughts?

*sarcasm* Wow, thanks for the idea Billy i've never thought of that?!?! If you'd like to know, I do hold an anime and japanese video game contest once atleast every week so I have a reason to rant.

Sadly, people not previously experienced with the sheer boredom of waiting while the contest is supposed to begin may have to swallow that proverbial pill and then, perhaps only then, this type of thing will lessen in popularity as negative word-of-mouth spreads.

As you design avatars, Atmos, I can't see many others dedicated to this particular craft going to be repeatedly annoyed by what you described. Either that, or they'll arrive later -- knowing in advance there will be such a delay anyway. A more logical alternative, in any case, would be to take that time and invest it in further avatar-designing and related activities such as personal promotion for greater long-term visibility (not some transient fly-by night op.).

Just a few. I don't feel like straining this morning.. it gives me hemrrhoids.

First, if you want to compete or show off your av, what difference does it make where a conest is held?

Second, if you are interesting in competing, what difference does it make that a club owner gets dwell for holding the contest?

Finally, if you made the avatar solely because you like the way it looks and coincidentally enter it in contests, or don't because of the location for such contests, why not just wear it around elsewhere? I have had many comments on my skeleton av.. entered it in a couple of contests and lost... but I like it and that is all that really matters to me about it.

You might think showing up late is a good idea, but some of these contest runners (I will not say all or even a majority) will not include you. They may not even tell you you're not considered. Sometimes, they'll even just award whomever has been there the longest, screw judging who has the better avs. I've seen utter pos costumes win when there are easily 5-6 better avs there, just because they were there since before the event was to start. Events in malls and clubs just seem not worth it any more.

Well, as the person above me just stated the judges can give a sh*t about what your wearing. Also, I personally hate clubs, they lag too much. I don't care that they get dwell, but I believe contests should be held not just to promote clubs, when there doing that I dont think they care about the artists at all. Finally, these days the categories are totally insane (WHOA BIGGEST BUTT CONTEST!!!) that anyone can make in 5 seconds, while avatars like yours are unappreciated.

the problem is the urge to get dwell....so any scam to get it...will be used...

I wouldn't get upset about it....just don't go - go to show and tell and 'REAL' events....not these dwell scams.

That is true, thats why I encourage people to start their own avatars, not for their own benefit, but for the artists (And you can get some cash on the side too for hosting events)

There was one I was at that was actually kinda fun. I had no idea what kind of contest it was, so I went to check it out. Was for formal wear, which sadly I had none of but I stayed to watch anyway. So few folks showed up that they forced me onstage anyway. :D Didn't win anything obviously but I never expected to. ;)

There's another for anime, I don't think it was yours, that supposedly runs weekly. Sadly it's while I'm at work. I think. o.o Was fun the one time I made it, again even though I had no anime avatar, well at the time anyway. ;)

For the record... while I run most of my 'Show 'n' Tell' style events at Stage 4 or Oak Grove... If I do hold one at Mochastyle or Stonehenge, you can rest assured that the same high standards of fairness will apply.

Start submitting abuse reports if they delay the start of an event for an unreasonable amount of time with no decent reason. It's abuse of the dwell system. Sure, it might not get anyone banned, or even warned, but LL might think about changing the rules about events.
