Trial calling cards...

Are they included with rating calculations?

If they are, they shouldn't be.. I dunno, but aren't there some people with like 1200 calling cards? Are there even 1200 people playing SEcond Life?

Isn't there some way to purge the database of trial accounts every week/month, so people can't accumulate ridiculous amounts of CC's and get a phat ratings check every week?

I thought they stopped factoring calling cards into your bonus a while ago.

They already had a purge of some older, outdated CC's, LF. This happened with the start of 1.1, IIRC.

I am in the top 5 on Leader Boards for CC's, and I talk to a lot of new folks in-game. I also get regular IMs from new people asking for help. The bonus I get from my CC's is something I earn, I believe, and, since the Lindens reward us for talking to new people in this way, they WANT to perpetuate this behavior (See Haney's 11/14 post on new people coming into SL and his urging for us to be nice to them).

Just because you prefer to stick to whatever you're building at the moment and not venture out to socialize, LF, does not mean that the rest of us should do the same. What a lonely world SL would be if we all kept to ourselves and didn't extend a hand of friendship to new players.

Having a lot of cards does have its price. Being a Mentor, I try to get as many as I can and always offer help. But, my privacy level has taken a nosedive, I get IM all the time now. I love helping out, believe me, but it is a different ballgame these days. Not sure if you noticed or not, but we have gained A LOT of new players the last couple of days, the welcome area was packed tonight, busiest I ever saw it on a single day.

I do understand where your coming from Lordfly, a brand newbie can climb the weekly boards very fast simply by trading cards, but its a reward for meeting and greeting others and expanding their network. Its not perfect, I doubt it ever will be, we have to accept tradeoffs for the good and the bad. I think builders need some sort of more incentive, but as soon as it comes, the ones that dont build will cry about it.

I was referring more to unused calling cards... trials that are no longer active.

Ugh, my posts sounds stern, not the way it was intended. Hard to read emotion into type sometimes, my apologies.

I looked through my calling cards and I did discover that a few of the beta plyers I knew that left are no longer in my list. A few of the names I dont recognize so readily are in there, but they are shown to be residents. I did see a couple that actually had status as trial user were there, but they were born in October. It looks like they do get dropped, just takes some time.

Loki and Beryl earned my calling card. I met both of them within one hour of landing in this confusing world, and if not for their help, patience and kindness, I may not have stayed.

In the last couple of weeks they have deleted over 400 old calling cards.

Thanks for the kind words, Lyrical, I'm always happy to hear someone considers me helpful and not just some maniac running around forcing myself on newbies.

I guess I shouldn't get so stern with Lordfly, after all, he still has mod perms on my stuff from building my house, he could just go and delete it all. o_0
