Is anyone out there having live music events? Ever since we got streaming music I have looked forward to the possibility of people showcasing talents. I don't go to alot of events anymore simply because I grew tired of the clubs, etc. I'm not saying these aren't fun events for people so don't take that the wrong way. I'm sure out of all the creative talent in Second Life we have musical talent! We've streamed Dragen Zaius and Water Rogers in Umber and Chartreuse a few times and it was great. I would love to attend events for live music. If anyone out there has thought of doing this step up! I think I can speak for alot of people when I say it would be very refreshing and interesting.

Well there has been a live guitar playing at Briarcliff manor, but it only occured once. I think its a really good idea, i'm a fellow musician myself. I never liked clubs at all (no offense to clubbers or club owners), but I would attend a live music event. THe hard part is trying to get a radio station for every streamer. I think a better system is for someone who owns a radio station, to ask peopel for their recorded songs so they could upload it on their radio station. Then, when the live event occurs, their avatar can go up stage and lip sync. Although its not as spectacular as live music, it's good enough for me.

Well, many of us RL DJs have done events for people. I'm unsure whether you'd consider myself mixing music live from my turntables or DJ DNA mxing some of his own original works live performance.
On that note, I would like to invite an aspiring or professional musicians who wish to have an event to contact me in world! I am happy to provide both the space and the ShoutCast server for you to use here in Spittoonie Island! _____________________

Clementina Park, Tuesdays at 7

Astrin Few plays at the park every Tuesday at 7pm. He sings and plays guitar, mostly good old jazz... It's draws a nice crowd and everyone has a great time.

I've been wanting to do this with some live bands in Philadelphia for a while now, but simply haven't had the time. Things are in the works, however.

If I can figure out how to make my music program (Buzz) output to a webserver then have it broadcast, I'll definitely do a live show... as in, live live

Yeah, actually that was me that played at Briarcliff Manor that time, too, a hired gig. I'm also starting an engagement at the C-Note Sky Club on Sunday nights, starting in a week, 11/21, at 7-9 PM, in addition to my regular show at Clementina Park on Tuesdays at 7-9 PM.
I'm very discouraged by the lack of support for live performance by the Lindens. There isn't even an event category called "Performance" - I have to enter all my performances as "General Fun" which, I suppose, it is, but it'd be VERY nice if live performance had some sort of differentiation in world. It doesn't fit into their revenue model, except indirectly (making SL a nicer place to spend time) so I don't think they've cared that much. This also includes things like theater, which doesn't even require streamed audio, but it's nice to have it, and it's essential, obviously, if you put on a musical (which IS totally possible!). Plenty of Lindens have been at my performances, so I know they're aware of its existence and, I'd hope, its potential. I've talked to their PR guy, David Libby, about live performance being a way that differentiates SL from games, which have a more limited context, and he's presented that to LL as a PR angle. LL has asked about the requirements of a shoutcast server (pretty minimal) and David and I have talked about me doing some sort of LL-sponsored public concert, maybe on some theme, but it hasn't really moved, and I don't wish to push it that much since I'm having a ball playing my own gigs using my own shoutcast server and I believe it's something the Lindens have to come to on their own if they're going to really support it. I think it's notable that they didn't provide streaming for the big Neverland event by Spellbound, even though they provided three servers, which is vastly more in terms of hardware than a measly Shoutcast server. Finally, LaLa Xevious, the owner of the C-Note, is pretty serious about having jazz and other live music at her place, and is considering renting a Shoutcast server to provide for that purpose. If you can help her out, please do; I don't know anything about Shoutcast renting since I've got my own server at work. Please IM me if you'd like to talk more! I very much want live performance to take off in SL, and it may be ready to do so. |

:: chants :: TORLEY!! TORLEY!!! TORLEY!!!! Why thank you graciously. ![]() The future is full of possibilities. As I have hyperacusis now, I can't do this at the present -- but I am anxious and eager to see what happens. As for "Buzz" *looks at Lordfly and Icon*, I never got comfortable with the interface myself, but I know that luminaries like James Holden use it (for his stunning "Horizons" and it'd certainly be cool to see what comes up.Astrin, nice to see you on here. I very much enjoyed when you did a mellow version of a tune with the same chords as the Star Trek theme, that was memorable. ![]() _____________________

Yep, Dragen and i have done countless live streams. I use a shoutcast server, and can generally do OK with 10-15 people at 64-96kbs stereo before people start to notice dropouts. You can usually hear me playing in chartruese at my Reverie store, or if you're ever interested in hearing me live, throw me an IM. I play guitar (10 years). Unfortunately, live streaming is hard to do durring an event, because there are tons of people and lag (even lindens have had issues in the past with live broadcasted town hall meeting etc)... so it's generally best to keep these kind of showings to 'private sessions'.

This in my opinion is a GREAT idea....
![]() When I played TSO, a group of creative people ran a theater an put on shows like "Where's Godart"..... They were all quite good (for tso that is), they used streaming audio, an was fun an quality stuff........ If TSO can do it, I know for a fact that SL can do it better an have even a greater turnout an apreciation of it....... I'm all for live "music" events an theater shows big time. I mean who would not like to see a Kiss style concert with original music or have such plays such as "The Wizard of Oz" even. Heck some of the AV's are already in the game.......... An so, who wants to be a rock-star or an actress........ I can just imagion the try-out lines for the part of "dorthy"! LOL Peace............. Adam......... _____________________

I've been wondering about all this...I would love to see not only live shows but live talk radio with interviews and debates. It would be wonderful to create a true station with radio shows like "On stage with ..." or political talk show "The Chopping Block" hehe...horrid names but I'm low on creative juice. If anyone is considering this let us all know!

I love the idea, I'll be looking forward to this if it should ever materialise!
On top of the ideas that was posted above, how about a live top 10 SL singers/music or a talk show, or a radio skit. I really think that'll be fun ![]() _____________________

There could be dramatic radio mysteries done in mini-series form... and radio poetry jams, political talk shows, humorist sketches, live music, psychics...the outcomes are endless. |

Astrin, nice to see you on here. I very much enjoyed when you did a mellow version of a tune with the same chords as the Star Trek theme, that was memorable. ![]() Thanks. That was "Out of Nowhere", a wonderful Johnny Green / Neal Heyman tune. It was written originally for an early Bing Crosby movie, "Dude Ranch", which I've never seen. The song has really been growing on me lately, it makes a really nice bossa. |

Certainly it's not as smooth and connected as playing in front of a group of people in first life, but I've really enjoyed playing public performances over the past five months. You do have to cheat, and say "thank you" well before the listeners have heard the end of the tune, and they have to put up with the long delay between when they type something and they hear your response on the stream. But those are minor technical impediments compared to the wonderful benefits of live performance. At least my listeners and I feel that way, so I've been very motivated to continue doing public performances (and I do enjoy playing to a small group of friends, too, don't get me wrong). I look forward to hearing you, I wasn't aware that you've been playing live in world. |

Astrin,
I believe you're right... there is nothiing better then performing live to a group of people weather it's RL or SL. I receieve the same satisfaction. I think i should have said "My personal preference is to not stream to a large group of people blah blah" rather then just boldy stating NOT GOOD in so few words. But i do agree with you -- I'll have to check you out sometime, i've heard great things ![]() --Water _____________________

SL Streaming
11-19-2004 19:10
Howdy,
Was reading the live music thread on forums with interest, I've setup SL Streaming offering streaming relay services for linden dollars. If you don't have the bandwidth to host multiple streams and need a reliable service just drop me an IM. I've also setup a how to stream music in SL notecard in the store pod if anyone is interesting in getting your music into SL with the minimum of fuss. Alternatively you can read the howto at http://JamieOtis.Com. Jamie SL Streaming : Providing streaming music services in SL. secondlife://Mauve/14/86 : Mauve (14, 86) |
