A Plea

I want to change my first name. I continually get spammed and sent things, and offers of tp's to god knows what club. Its obvious they are working their way through the alphabet and I want to change my name to Zena.

Is there any hope

if you withdraw your membership from clubs, etc., you won't get spam from them. same if you take certain calling cards off your friends' list. it won't stop the spamming entirely but perhaps diminish it to a tolerable level.

Note that anyone who sends you a message about clubs or sends you a TP to a club, and they aren't on your friends/calling card list, or you're not a member of any groups in relation to this club, then this could be considered spam abuse and you can report it.

If you are in a group or have their calling card, just leave the group and delete the card (but make sure you go into view--->friends from the pulldown menu and delete it there too).

Alexa - a couple suggestions:

1. If you're receiving unwanted IMs from a group you're a member of - leave the group.

2. If you receive unsolicited IM's from something you're not a group member of - don't just close the window. Heckle the person publicly first. (They wont like that - its embarrasing). If they're smart, they wont IM you again.

3. If you receive an unsolicited TP - I would take the teleport - and then offer the person a neg rate. If they explain that it was a mistake or misunderstanding - politely take the rating back. Either way - I doubt you'll receive another TP request from them.


Typically, spammers spam because its a marketing tool. If you poison it through embarassment or the threat of neg rates - they're more likely to avoid you.

Whether your name begins with an A or a Z or a non-alphanumeric character of any sort, you should NOT be subjected to spam.

Make sure to point out to them politely but firmly that unsolicited advertisements are against the Terms of Service as set forth by Linden Lab (in section 5.1 if you want to get precise), and if you wish, guide them towards more appropriate venues of promotion like MetaAdverse and certain sub-Forums here.

Who knows, they might just be grateful in the long run you saved them from getting into a lot of embarassing trouble down the line.

It certainly isn't coming from club groups, as I don't go to clubs and have never joined any of their groups.

You are right, I am going to take a tough stance in the future and warn them that I will send in an abuse report. Take their tps and even if i don't neg rate them, I will tell them what I think about them.
