A hug is life's way of saying, 'Relax, everything will be as it should be...', when the bills are piled high, the friends never call, the job is a mess or you feel like putting someone's head through the wall. There is something both pleasureable and relieving about hugs. A validation that you are someone of worth, deserving of affection, whose feelings matter, and for whom others have care. It is an affirmation of the underlying hope of humanity in itself that complete strangers can and will hug, given the chance and some semblence of security in the contact being desired. A call for a hug is a call for a reminder that you exist, you to yourself and you to the world. As humans who claim to be interested in the betterment of our species, as people who would consider themselves caring, it is encumbant upon us to care for one another and to answer the call when we can.
