for us to getting a building forum??

I realize that scripting is more complex than building, but to a newbie, building is hard enough. A forum dedicated to building Q&A would be an excellent resource for newbies. (The ones that bother to read the forums, anyway.)

Just a thought. (Prompted by the fact that I have a question at 7:30 AM on a Saturday morning, and none of the "pro" builders that I have calling cards for are online.)

Heh, this is a good idea. If you need any building help, feel free to IM me!

Also, to find builders that you DONT have the calling card for, go to Control + F, check off Building, and check off Currently Online, and then press search. :)

You can call me for building questions anytime. If I'm not online, try emailing me. If I'm not online, I'm still sitting here on my puter heh and I'll log in.

Excellent Idea

I love this as not everyone is online/in game at all times. Say the noob has a question that wakes him at 4am a forum/thread would be a great place to ask :D

Love this idea :)

Additional note (dunno why I didn't put it in my first one) -

Yes, a building forum would be great, and I would love to see one. It is odd that we have scripting but not building.

Just curious. I am a scripter myself, and not a good builder, but what would you put in a building forum? Most everything I need help with in building seems about 1000x better to learn in world ...

Not saying you don't need it or that it isn't a good idea. Do not take it that way. I am just really curious what kind of stuff would get posted there?

I think it is a great idea. People will ask all kinds of questions. Even questions where you could find the answer in the docs but never looked so here would be a handy reservoir of knowledge. Once there are enough post and answers when people do searches they will find what they need fast. Plus everyone has a different approach to building and a forum will bring that out. I learn a lot of things from the forums. I think it would be extremely helpful to have a building one for newbies and experienced builders as well.

Speaking as a really bad builder here, so keep that in mind.. heh.

Many years ago my ex (he wasn't my ex then, but... ) decided he was going to teach me Pascal. My first lesson wasn't a lesson but was an assignment: "Write down the steps involved in making a paper airplane. You may not actually make an airplane before or while writing down the instructions."

Ummm... ??

Yes, the above story really does relate =)

Ok, here's another parallel. There's a kids' show on PBS called Zoom. A while back there was a bit on the show where one kid had to make a peanut butter sandwhich, but could only follow directions from another kid -- where the kid giving the directions wasn't allowed to watch the kid who was making the sandwhich. It was hysterical.

Director Kid #1: "Rub the peanut butter on the bread"

Sandwhich Kid picks up the jar of peanut butter and rubs said jar on the still wrapped loaf of bread.

Director Kid #5: "Take one slice of bread out of the wrapper. Open the jar of peanut butter. Using a knife, spread peanut butter onto the slide of bread.

Sandwhich kid follows those instructions to the letter -- spreading peanut butter onto the *crusts* only.

I just think it would be too hard -- too frustrating for Wannabuild Newbie, even if GoodBuilder Oldtimer writes a novel teaching how to build a peanut butter sandwhich.

What I think would be more helpful would be tutorials with snapshots. GoodBuilder Oldtimer would still have to write out a LOT of details, but with the step by step snapshots it would be much easier for WannaBuild to follow.
