I've been posting a lot to the forums lately, mainly because I am suspended from SL by a technicality. I can't get in to play cause I can only make SL work on XP, and I run a server that handles my business website, and my email, and my database. (And I'm a recent graduate, so I can't afford new jeans, let alone a second PC The Lindens are good people, they support me and the other Linux users and have commited themselves to a Linux client, but till then I can only get in every so often when I actually sacrifice the uptime of my domains to play SL (Yes, I've done that a few times, I like SL that much, and I run a UK registered company). By means of this post, I just want to send my support to the SL community in abscentinia cause I can't be there in person. Everything to get me back in is being done, but it'll take a little time So you all put on a chicken in your SL ovens for me and the other Linux people

*wince* Well, that's life... I really really need to keep my domains up, so I have to stay in Linux for most of the time... BUT the party will definately be at my place when they release the Linux client

That sucks, luckly the Linux client is "coming".
I was suspended on a technicality once, technicly I wasn't wearing pants, technicly the sheep didn't give consent, and technicly it shouldn't have made noises.

Have you tried using wine ? I seem to remember some threads that detailed the configurations required to get SL to work under the emulator. I've never tried myself, but it sounded like it had been successfully done. - Ace

Hi Schwanson, always good to hear from you Don't worry about PMing me, I'm not sure how to turn it on IM me in world and it'll come to my email I've got wine and winex (cedega) and currently cedega is running SL, but all I get is a black screen. I think it's turning the screen black and then crashing... I really need the Linden Linux client Incidentally if they're reading this, I don't care how rubbish what they've done is so far, I'd love to alpha or beta test it, cause any kind of SL access would be cool I want SL bad, but I just can't let those domains fail...

From: Lecktor Hannibal I tried it once when I found a really good deal on a 5gallon box but woke up with a headache. Oh ....sorry. Ha ha, we used to have this junk called Lambrini in our local store near Uni, and it was like £3 for a bottle ($5). Dirt cheap and really poor quality stuff, but good for getting smashed before going to the FND (Friday Night Disco). Those were the days...

In my day it was Thunderbirds. 99p a litre. Strips paint good, too.

Strips paint good, too. I'll tell you what we did find in Ibiza this year. First we found Absynthe (70%) which we all had fun with, adding tiny bits to drinks (a little went a LONG way)... But then in one of the supermarkets, we found some RED absynth... 80%! I think that stuff is also sold in some gas stations to power your trucks and things...

From: Surina Skallagrimson Oh the joys of a Thunderbird hangover.... Yes. I never understood why the hangover came on so quick, either. Like, before you'd swallowed the first mouthful. Or why we drank it, really, considering that the effect was much like being force fed kerosene while being hit over the head with a sledgehammer. The standard answer was "cuz it gets u pissed quick n cheap". But what good is that if you can't stand up or see? Do they still do the stuff? Cuz the kids round here just drink scrumpy now. Bloody snobs. And I don't really drink any more (scary revelation: yes, Kris is like this sober! )

They sell Thunderbird in the states. Although, in my experience, it tastes more like an industrial product than a beverage.
When I was in the UK, I went for simplicity when getting pissed. The local Tesco's had a nice house brand, plastic two-liter bottle of what they called "medium" cider... which always struck me as funny, because they sold neither "hard" nor "soft."
It was like 2-3 pounds, and if you drank the whole thing yourself, was very effective. And.. being plastic, if (when) you dropped it, it didn't shatter. Always a plus.

The worst hangover I've ever had was from drinking the red 20/20... makes me go green just thinking about it, and I have to avert my eyes in Tesco when I go down that aisle.
LOL

JSecure: Have you tried the precompiled Wine binaries at http://statspage.dyndns.org/~mark/SecondLifeLinux.tar.gz?

Trader Joe's has a wine they call 'Two Buck Chuck". Not bad, but a little raw and tingly for my taste.
