Hi blaze :)

Yes, Chinatown is closed, as per this announcement for the closing party...

/invalid_link.html

The sims U:SL were on are going to be used for an exciting future Bedazzle project, so stay tuned. *sound of film rolling* :D

Cheers.

Saying how much hype there was before it was released hardly anything was said about it whilst it was around, which is suprising. When you think of other big new attractions (such as Neverland or Oz for instance) the number of threads about them don't seem to end but for U:SL I haven't seen anything, apart from the threads from before it was released.

I didn't realise it had closed even.

Thanks Willow, that's an idea. Right now, here's the URL of the official Bedazzle website:

I only got a chance to visit once, and I don't think it was a great day to do so, so I prolly didnt see it at its best anyway. But it just seems senseless to me to have a sim open for less time than it took to develop and script it in the first place. All those man hours of dedicated work! And for what? Less than a month - and only a fraction of the people I spoke to actually knew about it at all. People occasionally say to me even now 'so when is Chinatown opening?' and I have to tell them it's been and gone!

I had my themed sim open for 10 months, and even now people are always saying 'aww man, you deleted it?! I hadnt got round to seeing it!'.

I'm sure Bedazzle had their reasons for only keeping it a month, but it just seems a monumental waste of a lot of talent and work.

Like Kris said, a month was definitely a short timespan, and it's appreciated you think it was so much work. :) IT WAS!!! The memories remain, however.

I'd like to add some notes on behalf of the Bedazzle team:

-In a sense, the work that was done did not go to waste, because it only helped to further bedrock and elevate our abilities. More importantly, I think the community enjoyed and had some kick-ass fun, and we gained knowledge about furthering SL. For that matter, you can bet your knickers the builds are safely packed up in Inventory. This was a stepping stone to the next level, leading to the next project which you will be hearing more about it in due time. Chinatown (and Sim Horror, and Gravity Space Station, etc.) may be gone but Bedazzle isn't.

-CrystalShard Foo is a dilligent coder and what she has learned from the experience has been tremendous. She retains the combat system -- modular and flexible by design, and in no way limited to Chinatown alone -- and if anyone is curious in contacting her for further details about using it in future games or in improving it and related topics of inquiry, I'd recommend doing so! :)

-It's quite a compliment that many apparently wish it could stay longer. We do too, but by way of the transient dynamics of SL, change... well, it's the only constant (as the BT song goes), isn't it? So, bowing out for now, one sunset to the next sunrise, we'd like to warmly thank everyone for coming to Chinatown and Abraxas when the U:SL project was up. Much, much gratitude and appreciation for your support.

We're on this journey together, and as long as we keep walking together, we'll be alright.

... and onto better, brighter tomorrows. :)

Formalies aside . . . this is a purely personal tangential thoughtline from me (Torley) before I hit the watermelon-colored hay: I'm having an emotional moment here and just am gonna give a shout-out to our excellent friends in the Spellbound team, and I am really looking forward to their next project, which will likely dwarf Oz and Neverland. Thought came to mind. I'm hoping for Alice In Wonderland, but that's where my bias rests. :D A number of us are busy right now in the ways of love -- that is true for me ;) and CONGRATZ TO MASH AND BACCA!!! -- gosh it felt so good saying that -- and some of us have got our own personal projects going on too before we unite again and connect to deliver another big chop-socky round of imaginative fun to this gridverse.

Wow.

There are so many amazing creations being born here. My blog entry from yesterday dealt with that:

http://torley.blog-city.com/read/1151463.htm

and I'm seeing more and more and more. I encourage peeps who haven't yet posted about their cool stuff on the forum, to do so. Get the word out, maximize your sandbox karma, share the experiences. I gotta single out Kris here 'cuz she posted earlier, and I just have magical moments from Heaven & Hell... and the new thing she's doing... yee-ow! Thanks Kris for inspiring me to get into SL, I wouldn't be here had you not helped me through the sequential chain of events that was to follow like some trippy cosmic symphony dipping its way through the astral plane and starshowers raining on babies's heads fresh with the innocence of morning dew, EYES OPENIN' FOR THE FIRST TIME. So YEAH -- looking forward to that. It keeps on flowing, the flowers are growing, the rain is snowing... and i'm tripping out. We've got a new continent, 1.6 is on the way, a lot of new Residents are entering the world and wishfully gettin' bugged out...... OMG these are exciting times.

*calms down*

Second Life and the people within in it... coming together to do stuff like this... beautiful beautiful beautiful and I'm so happy to be here.

*tips flowerpower hat*

RUR RUR.

KYRAH! Maker of fine fetish wear and... hey, are you still workin' on that firearm?

Dang... quick mental slice... saw Nik in an outfit of yours otherday, she looked great.

And now,

I was gonna go to bed but felt a vibe, told me to stick around for a few more min. -- and then you posted here. I gotta see your space pirate shiznit when that's up and running, er, flying... the whole dang armada, ion cannons blastin' fusion and dropping space mines like rappers drop rhymes, double-time (or quadruple if you are Busta Rhymes...).

I'm looking foward to what you're doing! Please keep me updated! *huggerz* :D

For looks i'd have to go with Chinatown, but for gameplay i'd have to say Abraxas was the better sim. Abraxas had way more places to hide and finding the guy that was shooting at you was alot harder there. I wish they could have somehow coded it so the minimap was unusable in both sims. LL should take Crystalshard's scripting and implement it in Rausch or Jessie, and make those silly pushguns unusable in those sims.

/me mourns the loss of some of the best fun you could have in Seond Life without getting your clothes off. :(

All that work from all those people, and already closed? Why? I don't go to parties so have absolutely no idea. I figured the builders were just taking notes to tune it down so you could actually move when you got there...but (I figured) that was just a matter of time. Everybody always overdoes it on the first run.

Torley you forgot to mention the old Divine and Metphysical Slap on the Arse.

Well, I went there during my first few days on the game, and stood around confused, lol.

Saturday I tried to find it to take two friends who I got to get on the game to it, and couldn't find it. All I could figure was it had been somehow moved to the new version place.

Yes, a month is way too short. If it was this short because they thought it was peaking, I think that's doubtful. It takes longer than that to get the word out. But I suspect it was ended for other reasons, such as the creators were anxious to get on to/spend more time on other projects.
