I am utterly furious that the Hippo thread is locked!!!! That was the longest bestest thread in the world... and I blame all of you for letting it go since 6/20/04 the last post...
So I now call upon my hordes of hippo hooligans to retake the glory and start over.
drum roll
THIS IS THE NEW HIPPO THREAD
And the people rejoiced

Well, sadly, the hippos are no longer relevant in this world. It sure was a lot more fun back then, wasn't it? It is so sad to think that those glorious days are permanently gone Darwin doesn't even play anymore... or post...

we need to start up the hippo stuff again!!! Hippos rock! They rule SL, and they need us to worship them! Hippo Joke: So one day, all of the animals came together and made the following deal: Each will tell a joke, and if everyone doesn't laugh at it then they would kill the joke teller. (I don't know why they did this... maybe they were hungry?) So anyway, the Rabbit went first. The Rabbit told this great joke. All of the animals were laughing hysterically, rolling on the floor and slapping their knees (if they had knees). All that is except for the Hippopotamus. So, what could they do... the Hippo did not laugh. They had to kill the Rabbit. After promptly doing so, they gave the next turn to the lion. The Lion told a really dumb joke, that was not funny at all. All of the animals just sat there and stared, but the Hippo started laughing a tremendous laugh. the animals asked the Hippopotamus: "why are you laughing? the Joke wasn't funny." To which the Hippo replied: "Didn't you get the Rabbit's Joke?"

The Happy Hippo In a place called Africa, there once lived a hippopotamus called the Happy Hippo. He was called the Happy Hippo because no matter what he was doing he was always smiling. When he awoke in the morning he was smiling. When he ate his breakfast he was smiling. When he want for his daily swim he was smiling. No matter what he was doing or who tried to make him mad or who try to stop him from smiling, the Happy Hippo just, you know, I knew you could guess it, just kept on smiling. Now you may not know this, but believe it or not, if you are around someone who smiles all the time, the first thing you know you will be smiling too. It is just like a sickness, it moves from person to person or in this case from animal to animal. How do I know this, you try smiling at everyone you meet in a day and see what happens in return. Back to our story, because the Happy Hippo smiled all the time and at everyone, first thing you knew all the other animals where smiling too. The giraffes, the zebras, and even some of his enemies like the lions and crocodiles, they could not help but smile when the Happy Hippo was around. All the animals liked to be around him, because he made them feel good. It could be raining, he would be smiling. It could be so dry the dirt whirled around in the wind but he would be smiling. That is, until one day. You know what happened on that day, the darkest day in the history of Africa. The smile of the Happy Hippo tilted, and tilted, and tilted until it turned plum upside down into a frown. All the animals were amazed, their chins dropped, their eyes widened, they just could not believe that their friend the Happy Hippo wasn't smiling any more. They asked each other, "Do you know what is wrong?", "Is he sick? "Who has finally done something to made our friend the Happy Hippo frown? What can we do to make the Happy Hippo smile again? Do you have any ideas, on how to make him smile again. It is very, very important to all the other animals, that they find a way to make the Happy Hippo, well you know, happy again. Their world just wasn't the some with out the smile of their friend. Have you any ideas why? Could it be because the Happy Hippo's world was changing, and not for the best. Was it that the people, were making more and more of the Happy Hippo's favorite places into roads and farms? Was it that is was now harder and harder to find water that was safe to drink? Was it that, many of his friends and family were disappearing for lack of good food? reply to the thread and finish the story what do you think should happen? Why was the hippo frowning?

I can relate personally to this story. I think this Hippo was frowning because it sensed a disturbance in the spacetime continuum. Something needed to be set right, and that could only be done through time travel. Sure enough, a Happier Hippo soon arrived from the future (from the relativistic observer's point of view) to cheer up its past self by telling past-Hippo what a bright place the not-so-distant points in the timeline would be, with nanotechnology and better sanitation -- not to mention plenty o' neon watermelons for everyone to enjoy -- and to turn that frown upside-down! The Happy Hippo soon found a soulmate who happened to be a librarian, and together, they were very happy for the rest of their lives. Sure, they had troubles and challenges in their path, but no matter what, their love for each other grew and grew and the love helped them to overcome their trials and tribulations. You might say they were Happy Together. *cue song*

heres my version all the animals were worried and wondered why the hippo was so sad, so that went and asked him, the hippo simply looked at them and said "i'm out of weed!" Turns out the hippo wasn't just happy all the time, he was just stoned!

I loved the Hippo thread and the fact that the Hippo became the somewhat official animal of Second Life. Therefore, I have placed a golden Hippo statue outside my place in Westport

What a beautifull statue Derek!
If there ever is an SL award service, golden Hippo awards in simular fashion should be given to winners.
Its a shame that the kids these days don't have the same respect for such a magnificant mascot such as the Hippo.
