Anyone see that Nike commercial?

With Lance Armstrong boxing, Michael Vick & Brian Urlacher playing hockey, Serena Williams playing beach volleyball, Agassi playing ball for the Red Sox, Randy Johnson bowling, and Marion Jones doing gymnastics?

Inspiring.

Its a cool commercial. But, Im curious, does it make you want to buy and wear Nike?

Advertising is a weird animal. You ever notice that about 90% of commercials are "humorous" or portray someone in it as a dolt? Why is that? I think I am a smart consumer, I would not mind straight forward advertising. "This is a great product and this is why you should have it." I dont need to see a horse fart on someone to buy whatever it was that commercial was for.

Sometimes I will knowingly buy a product based on a commercial I saw, but they usually have little effect on me. A lot of the time I will see a cool commercial and tell someone about it and completely forget what was being sold.

Nike commercials tend to annoy the hell out of me. They have this tendency to think that the only way you can sell anything to black folks is to throw in basketball and rappers. Then again, since its Nike, basketball will naturally come up.

The only Nike commercial I really liked was the Y2K ad.

edit:

I won't comment on the new ad since I hacven't seen it yet. I hope the beginning of this post didn't come off as too much of a rant.:D

At least it didn't have them all playing "There"...

I personally wear Reebok's instead since they make my feet feel better. It's just a cool ad though. Sorta reminded me of SL in that you can do anything.

The whole basic premise behind doing "humorous" or commercials like the Nike ones are all about storing what you see into your memory. Your more likely to remember something if it has some humor, or some sort of oddity that you usually wouldn't see. It's the way most advertising is. It doesn't matter if the product is good or not, it's how well the advertisers do in making you remember the product.

I'm Madison Avenue's worst nightmare. I remember all the good commercials, but I can never remember what product they are advertising. But when I see a commercial that really insults my intelligence, I make it a point not to buy the product.

I'd like to see a Nike commercal outlining the against-all-odds success story of some of their sweatshop workers. For example "through perserverance and working together at the Nike factory, the family was able to afford an entire sack of rice".
