You can find the blog at http://braintalk.blogs.com/live2give/index.rdf

It's interesting. At first, I have to admit, that I felt a bit uncomfortable with the blog as I have never reacted well to disabled people (something I unfortunately picked up from my father, I think).

But as I started to read the forums and their reaction to SecondLife, I started to realise that potentially SecondLife is more than just a place where disabled people can go to hide and escape the challenging aspect of their lives.

The truth is, Live2Give is, fundamentally, a truly compelling (the first I have ever seen) argument for the existence of SecondLife.

I know I know.. "games" are Rosedale's killer app. But when he said that, I basically left SL for a week I was so dissapointed in his lack of vision.

Philip: Games are the excuse for SecondLife, not the reason.

Fortunately, the community of Live2Give has brought me back. SecondLife has the potential, in its way, to fundamentally alter the nature of the universe for this community. Such a powerful and compelling reason makes me believe that SL has real legs to stand on.

Though this is enough, I'm not saying that this is the limit of SL, it can be even more.

I'm just saying this is the first time I have seen clear evidence that SL is advancing the progress of mankind.

I read Live2Give, as well as its "sister" blog, Brigadoon, which is focused on Asperger's and Autism:

Both are really inspiring. :D

Nah, the RDF link is the proper one.

Reading blogs via anything other than an aggregator is silly :)

Blaze,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this.

Y'know, it's a very common thing for people to initially feel "uncomfortable" around disabled individuals. You're not alone, and you shouldn't feel bad or ashamed about feeling that way.

Interacting with people who are disabled often makes us think about "deep issues," something that many people avoid because it's a bit intense. It makes us think about our own lives, how our own "troubles" often pale in comparison to what other people are dealing with, and how the most rewarding thing in life is often reaching out to touch and help others.

But in the end, you realize that people with disabilities are just like everyone else. The same hopes, dreams, and passions. They laugh, cry, tell jokes, get pissed off. They just have different challenges that make them a bit different physically.

And as everyone here knows....It ain't the visible avatar/clothing/attachments that make a person. It's the soul trying to communicate with others that makes us who we are.

:)
