but maxx, think of all the money those people are paying ll. that's a beautiful wonderful thing. it'll be even better when you and few friends, who do care, start shelling out bucks for a private island where you can work and be proud of what's there. get with the program man.

actually, you don't need a private island, you just need a sim with mountains all the way around the borders and a valley in the middle. come to think of it, i need one of those too.

Heh. I'll admit it, my building skills absolutely suck. I've had a partially built build hovering in Magenta for a good month+ or so now.

Perhaps, Maxx, you should give free building lessons to drive home the point of how laggy certain behaviours are?

Ok that's it! I'm with Maxx on this one! We need some sort of resident moderators! 1 for every 9 sims or something! Some one that has the power to go round and CLEAN up SHIT! stuff that doesn't belong or bogs down sims! We have some older residents that know tones about SL (what causes lag, slow downs and what is an obvious attempt at making other ppl lives in SL just frustrating!) and would be willing to help!

Maxx,

I bought a lovely little spot near your lovely little spot(s) in Janus for the VERTU headquarters. I, too, was happily looking forward to some order, and pleased as punch to see you were going to be my neighbor! I'd love to see a real neighborhood spring up.

It's true - the sim already has the SL equivalent of Wal-Mart sucking up server resources. But maybe if the rest of us get together and actually try to come up with a cohesive design plan, we can work around it to help the area live up to it's potential!

Eddie E. is going to be building the VERTU headquarters. (He's graciously lent us a prefab for now, as he's visiting his sweetie here in the good ol' US of A.) Maybe we should all sit down and talk so that our builds are complimentary?

Anyone care to post a quick list of laggy building behavior for those of us who are clueless? I'd feel pretty bad if I was causing lag in my sim and didn't even know it! :)

Kate, most buildings don't affect sim performance at all, though prim complexity and texture size can affect rendering speeds on the client. A torus takes more to display than a box, for instance. It's very rarely noticable, however.

If you're using scripts or physics, there's a lot that you can do to slow down the sim. Check out this entry on the LSL Wiki: http://www.badgeometry.com/wiki/Lag

The only way to get total peace in SL is to buy your own Sim. Sorry folks but as long as us older folks dont start banning together that is the reality of the situation.
