With Easter coming up I have begun construction of an Easter Egg Iraq War Memorial in the Morris sandbox. It will probably get deleted periodically, but please come by and see it. Add and egg or more of your own in rememberance of those brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends and relatives that we have lost in Iraq. I hope to create as many eggs there as there have been people how gave up thier lives in Iraq.
Why the Easter Eggs? The symbolism seems appropriate. The egg is a precious object, symbolic of the cycle of life. The docorated egg is even more precious. Which came first the chicken or the egg, it is a repeating cycle. It is delicate as life itself. Easter is a celebration of the return of springtime, the resumption of the cycle of life after a long winter. It is also the celebration of Christ rising from the dead.
Life, death, ressurection, reincarnation, Second Life, it all seems to fit to me.
Please come and add an egg in rememberance.

From: Mojo Bliss Don't you have land to build this on? Sounds worth keepn in SL awile. I wish I had enought land to support 5,000 plus eggs. All I have is recently acquired 512 m First Land which barely supports the studio and store I have built there.

From: DoteDote Edison Isn't there an Iraq War Memorial near the dam between Atlas and Ganymeade? Could be I will check it out. The Lindens were apparantly not impressed with my memorial idea. Twice now they have deleted it all within an hour of my setting it up. And the land is not set for Auto delete or return. The last deletion was followed by an IM from a Linden asking me to not do it again. Apparantly its more important for Space Pirates to play Stargate then it is to create anything meaningful or thought provoking in the sandboxes.

ArchTx, I sent you an IM with land where I'd be willing to host the memorial, there are about 2,000 prims available which is a lot of eggs. As I mentioned in the IM, my hosting is presuming that the message is "war deaths are bad" and isn't pro or con any party, stance, country, etc. but that.
I suspect the reason you were asked to remove the display from the sandbox is that 5000 eggs would use half the prims in a sandbox. The sandboxes are just not good for semi-permanent installations.
Check out the plot and let me know if you are interested.
Ace Cassidy's war memorial in Ganymeade is still standing, but there are no prims or space available there.

ArchTx has created a dramatic installation piece at Miru (44,69). I have attached a snapshot which hardly does the work justice. There is also an egg dispenser at the site that will give you a memorial egg to place and personalize through texture and text. Please place your egg on the hillside so as not to interfere with the artwork in the sky. The dispenser looks like this: . You need only click it to be given a customizable egg for placement. As noted above, this is a non-partisan, non-political installation that simply respects the casualties of the Iraqi war and all those who have lost a loved one to it. ... My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori.

The red cross on the egg dispenser is there strictly for easy identification and is not associated with The International Committee of the Red Cross or any related organizations. The egg dispenser periodically sends me a list of people who have been given eggs. This information will be used only for counting, and possibly (if no one objects) for a permanent marker listing those who have participated.

My thanks to Malachi Petunia for his generous support of the Easter Egg Iraq War Memorial.
It can be seen at Miru 19,42.
The final design concept for this installation has the helix of eggs originating from the primoridal ooze, in the mud at the ocean bottom. Then much like the evolution of life it rises up out of the mud, onto and over the land, spiraling up into the sky. The helix reaches its pinnacle at a spire of human embryo eggs, symbolizing rebirth.
Please come by and add an egg or more of your own in rememberance of those brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends and relatives that we have lost in Iraq.
Why the Easter Eggs? The symbolism seems appropriate. The egg is a precious object, symbolic of the cycle of life. The decorated egg has historically been considered a precious object. Which came first the chicken or the egg, it is an infinite repeating cycle, with no apparant beginning or end. The egg is as delicate as life itself. Easter is a celebration of the return of springtime, the resumption of the cycle of life after the long death of winter. It is also the celebration of Christ rising from the dead.
Life, death, ressurection, reincarnation, Second Life, it all seems to fit to me.
Please come and add an egg in rememberance.

I'd like to thank all the visitors to the installation for their kind words and placing their memorial eggs as well. Please remember that I am but hosting the installation, and that ArchTx deserves the credit. To answer a question I heard a couple of times, yes, they are eggs, yes, the installation appeared on Easter, but as the artist notes above, it is not a religious work. Here are the personal contributions to the egg field earlier today. As I noted to the artist, the installation has affected the minds, eyes, and hearts of those who have seen it. If there is another purpose to art, I don't know what it is.

This is really a sight to see! I urge everyone to go show support for those who have lost love ones in this tragic war. Bring our men and women home soon and may peace ultimately prevail.
