Well... first, they should've paid those tickets.
BUT... the police could've let them have the dignity of returning *happily* to the U.S. after putting thier lives on the line. Shameful. |

This is a Rant.... But people who defend us should be treated with SOME respect!

OK - they should have paid the tickets.
But most cities don't make it easy to do this anymore. The last ticket I got for not having my insurance card in my car required that I show up at the court house and physically show the card. So it cost me a full days work. Worse yet, it cost me a full days work because the f*ucking insurance company had not mailed me the card yet and some f*cking insurance company lobbiest convinced the state of Florida that everyone should have "proof of insurance" in their vehicle. It was all about money not safety.... But I digress... Showing up in court is not so easy to do when your in the military. Affording the fine for a ticket is not so easy if you are in the military. Have you looked at what these people are paid? The fact that the cops were waiting for them as they deplaned is disgusting and the more I read about stuff like this the more I feel we live in a police state. One point - I wonder if the soliders who were arrested that day for tickets, got their records wiped clean if the re-enlisted back into the military? Not exactly the draft but certaintly something I saw happen a lot during the Vietnam war. People who defend our country should not have to return to NO JOB, NO HOME and NO HOPE. Damn It!! /Rant almost over .... But... I would like to see how many of SL people who have fought for our country and who have been treated like this? What can we - those of us who stayed in our comfy little homes do to help? _____________________

Maintain the respect you have shown and encourage it in others. Join up on the many email/penpal /mail a package programs going out there and adopt a soldier/sailor/marine/airman as a friend. (besides me heh) Believe me that little action in itself will mean alot to a military person who is deployed and usually quite young and confused/scared. Hugs Rose _____________________

Lecktor,
I actually do that already, my brother was there so I still write to and send his friends things as well. Perhaps the government of the city of Hinesville GA should probably be made aware of their disgusting collection techniques: Mayor: Mr. Thomas J. Ratcliffe, Jr. 115 East M. L. King Jr. Drive Hinesville, GA 31313 Telephone: 912-876-3564 Fax: 912-369-2658 I plan on writing and sending a copy of the article. In addition one can email: slumpkin@cityofhinesville.org This is the clerks office in Hinesville GA. _____________________

But... I would like to see how many of SL people who have fought for our country and who have been treated like this? What can we - those of us who stayed in our comfy little homes do to help? I fought in the first Gulf War (1990-1) and was treated quite well upon return but in many other modern day wars that is not the case. Vietnam is the easiest example where liberals lined the streets to spit on our boys and call them baby killers. Shameful. ![]() What you can do is go up and personally thank every service member you ever see for helping keep this a free country. A few simple words of kindness can go a long long way. I never experienced prejudice until the first time I walked the streets in uniform. It is ridiculous how some people treat our men and women in the armed forces like they are trash. _____________________

Note, that only SOME of the warrents were for parking tickets. I betcha those that were 'hauled off' in cuffs had much more serious offenses.

I will thank them for doing their duty, that which has happened via the Gov-Co is not their fault, but there isn't one thing that occured in Iraq that made the US more free than it was before the attack. In fact the US has become less free as a result of the war. But I do agree that our service members are treated poorly by some citizens with misguided anger. It is easier for some to spit on a representative of the government than it is to direct their anger towards the actual source. Our service men are just doing their job. It is sad to see that some would take advantage of them or treat them in a disrespectful manner regarding something that the service men have no control over. _____________________

Is this true? Is this source reliable? Or are they leftist propoganda? Never heard of Guerrilla News. GNN is an independent news organization that does indeed have a very left leaning stance. They tend to cover stories that do not appear in the mainstream corporate media, or cover alternative apects of those stories that do. I personally find alot of their reporting stellar. If you want to check up on this particular story you can follow the link to Operation Truth http://optruth.com/main.cfm?actionId=globalShowStaticContent&screenKey=hear&htmlId=1539 to see their write up on this fellow plus additional media coverage of this story. None of the other articles mention the parking ticket incident but the rest of the facts seem to be repeated with some elaborations. There is also an email address on the Operation Truth site though with you can arrange an interview with this guy if you are really interested. |

What can we - those of us who stayed in our comfy little homes do to help? Hinesville is just the kind of asshole town where you will get a $90 ticket for going 26 in a 25mph zone. Just about everyone in the town, from the Korean and Phillipine hookers to the mayor is nothing but a parasite, living off the fat of Ft Stewart. Whenever the soldiers are gone, they don't make any money, so they have to stick it to them as soon as they get back. |
