Someone just sent this to me as an example of first life modelling second life..

http://www.theworld.ae/

They're building a shoal/continent of private islands off the coast of Dubai.

They seem to vary from 2.6 to 4.1 hectares. It didn't say how many prims.

apparently, they will also help you declare your island as your own little country.. if i remember correctly.

some celebrities and others of significant monetary status have already bought islands.

and i've been planning on buying one myself.. as soon as i win a huge lottery jackpot. :P

cool stuff though!

Before he got deployed, Billy Madison was working on trying to reproduce this in SL.

I want a private sim shaped like a miniature Texas. I'd put a single cactus in the middle.

Sure...
Be a rich Westerner with a private island in the Persian Gulf.

Sounds like a great fire-bombing opportunity for nearby griefers.

Or does it come with an estate control panel with an "Access" tab?

Indeed. For the amount of money you might spend on this project, you could buy a large lake surrounded by thousands of acres, and have money left over to build an island in the middle of the lake - in a stable region of the world like Canada or the western United States.

Billy! That's who, thanks, I'd seen a very, very early stage of that build and immediately recognized it from the logo.

Amazing, and yea Dubai is very very high on my list of places that I wouldn't choose as a residence, much less and investment location. Plenty o'money, plenty o'hostility, plenty o'space on the real world map for me to be someplace else. Damn shame, looks awfully idllic.

But ... do they have real Chicago-style pizza? :p

Exactly... go buy a huge lake resort instead of a tiny little island.

Dubai is known for being ridiculously opulent. The world ain't the end... Behold, THE PALM .

There are two. I guess they are setting up a forest for the aliens to view.

Ya....SOMEONE has more money than they know what to do with...

And I'm sure it has something to do with a bunch of dead dinosaurs and ancient plants! wtf!

But something tells me SL wasn't the inspiration for this one.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!
