Ok, I've been here a week, learned how to build the basic items, and learned some basic scripting...
I have a couple of ideas for some items I want at my place, and they may be marketable when I'm done...
What settings do you use to make something salable? If I make something, then click off "new owner can edit", then click on the "sell" and set a price, is that all I need to do?
Do people with shops ever sell other people's merchandise, or does everyone always sell their own?
Since I can't afford another property to set up my own shop, and I don't WANT to set up a shop in a residential district like Immaculate, do I just decorate my house as normal, and make anything I want to sell a salable item?

You have many options when it comes to selling items in SL. You can have things in your house for sale (but you have to find a way to let others know that you are selling things, since they will probably think that it's just a house with furniture unless the pass their mouse over the items). You can also sell items in other shops, for example AV Central in Natoma. Just be sure to stick to the selling rules that apply (there's a notecard dispenser outside ). To put items up for sale, you click the For Sale box and set a price. Then you choose the permissions (next owner can: modify, copy and/or resell/transfer. As for selling other's builds...not unless you have their permission or you bought one item that they set to "resell/transfer" and you sell that only copy you own (you will lose the one in your inventory). People mostly make their own items for sale...it's more rewarding!

From: someone Originally posted by Kats Kothari To put items up for sale, you click the For Sale box and set a price. Then you choose the permissions (next owner can: modify, copy and/or resell/transfer. Hmm. I LIKE the idea of sharing ideas etc... but, I NEED MONEY! Somewhee I have to come up with a rule for when I'm going to sell something, and when I'm going to just let folks copy what they want... For instance... I made what (for me) was an interesting item. I have a water based place, with a lot of water textures. When it came time to create a door into my place, Instead of creating one that would open, I just made the roof turn into water whenever it's clicked on. Love it, but I'm not sure it's salable, nor am I sure an on-click-to-water object is complex enough to sell. I guess what I want is for each person to be able to modify my items to his/her purposes, but not be able to just give them away... So, that would be checked for sale, resale, modify, but not copy? An item doesn't have to be complex in order for you to sell it.
I could create a simple box and offer it for sale. That doesn't mean anyone would buy it, but the potential is there.

You have to choose for the item to be either resellable or copyable. Following are 2 examples on how they work:
~ I have put up freebies in my place which are copyable and not resellable because I wouldn't want anyone trying to resell a "free to copy" item. A girl actually tried to resell a dreamcatcher that I have given out; she tried this in front of a group and I was present...Dae immediately told her a few things. This was before 1.1., but with the new permissions this shouldn't occur, unless you choose both settings.
~ All my items for sale are resellable, that way if a person gets tired of owning them they can resell them and at least get some of their cash back.
If you have items that come in a box, you need to set the properties of each item using the contents tab when you edit it (just right click on the item and the menu shows up). It's a bit of a pain to have to set each one individually (especially if there are many items in the box), but at least it adds some sense of security).
