That's just stupid. The girl should be charged too. Had there not been a legal alternative I might feel more lenient towards them, but since there was it's inexcusable.

They should both be charged, although I personally think it's a waste of taxpayers money.

People do unthinkable things when they feel desperate or trapped. It's horrific, and sad.

she was 6 months pregnant, so that wasn't exactly just a little fetus. It was a baby. This makes me sick.

I'm with you, Tiaragwin. A six-month old fetus, if delivered prematurely, has a much better chance of survival today than in years past. Let's face it. Some teenage boy beat his girlfriend with a bat to kill the child inside. How is that any better than dumping a delivered child into a dumpster?

That would be my thought too.

However, if abortion was actually an option and they waited too long or for whatever reason decided this was the best way, then they are both responsible and the law should apply to them both.

Sometimes people are sociopathic and completely irresponsible too and if that is the case with these two kids then they should be prosecuted.

The problem is that I don't trust the American judicial system to be able to discern the difference. As I see it, our judicial system is all about politics and how the law can be manipulated to serve a political end rather than about justice and the actual people balancing on her scales.

Oh I agree that they both should be punished, like I said, it's a horrific thing they did.

I'm just wondering how they got to that point - what their thought processes were, why they didn't go the legal abortion route.

I think toward the end of the story it says the body was found buried in the boy’s backyard, and that his mother helped him bury it. So there is an adult, a parent, involved as well, even if it was after the fact.

You really have to wonder about this. What was keeping these two fools from getting a legal abortion? Why did the girl just let this guy wail away at her with a bat? It really had to be painful. The girl's parents were obiviously clueless, since they claimed to be unaware of their daughter's pregnancy. Was she really that afraid of her parents learning about it?

Bottom line, both should be punished for their incredible stupidity and cruelty.
