So, I took some time this Saturday and put up the 'Megascraper' in Morris. (Cordova had crashed and I was re-doing it there..). Thanks for all who showed up to view the 1,008 prim monstrosity.
A little background: This was a build that had no preconception - no sketches...maybe I should've, but at the time, I just wanted to build something....big...and sky-scraperish...
My nebulous goal was the clouds..although in morris and on my sign I think it is 167meters, Huns Valen verified it is closer to 138 or so meters from the base. I guess I just have to add antenna like the pros do to finish it off.
An impromptu 'spire party' happened in morris on saturday. To those whose events were impacted, I'm very sorry (Ziphren...) but I had no idea when I was going to finish, and it just worked out that way...just showing it to a few people and it snow balled.
Pennies were dropped, people comitted virtual suicide time and time again, and the spire and other details were used to park vehicles etc... Thanks to everyone who showed up.
The skyscraper is in Cordova until the next wipe and/or crash, so get over there today to check it out..
To the lindens - v1.2 made it possible to make this rezz-able, I would've paid a fortune for the prims otherwise ($10,080). Who knows what the height tax would've been on a public plot of land....anyway, this is why I did it -- partially to show the possibility of SecondLife, also to show that I'm ready to push the limits when the system is ready.
I want to make this building habitable, with low-rent/luxury penthouses, store space, etc.. This can happen if technology progresses, and I'd love to be a part of it.
There are a lot of 'thank yous' that need to go out, and I know I'll forget someone (not intentionally) but thanks to stromko perkins and his friend (er...alissa? gah!) for the inspiration to make a mid-level deck. Thanks to Bino Arbuckle for taking the first photos and going to show and tell (won $150, woo!). Thanks to Kex godel for the monkey up top when I asked for a king kong - worked out great! Thanks to Panthar Orlowski for the great top-spire light! Thanks to everyone who showed up -- so many people so late...I can't possibly list them all because my memory is not that good!!
Anyway, thanks to second life and the lindens for the place to play.
Thank you all for being the audience (and future tenants?) that I would like to build things like that for.
If you haven't seen the pic, or need to, IM me in-world or ask around. It was truly a magical night in SL.
I'll try to attach a pic here, but it may not work.
Have a good one.

Prim Hog!! Maxx, always convert your screenshots to jpg before posting them. bmp's aren't compressed so a 640x480 image is 900kb, as opposed to about 40-60kb for a jpg. Makes life easier for peeps who want to see it Looks great btw!

Oh wow. I'm really sorry now that I'm stuck with a Win98 laptop on vacation here and can't see that until I get back home. Glad to hear it was a blast for those with access!

A truly impressive build....!
To my knowledge only Bonecrusher Slate's Fenway Park and the original Kazenojin Station compare in scale and loving attention to detail. It is a shame none of these are permanent installations due to the game's limitations.
Perhaps there should be an allowance made for 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD. Like the attractions at Lindenworld these could be submitted for approval and given a number of weeks to live before new builds are considered.
I think structures like these help to show Second Life as a place of great creative potential where player-created content rivals that of professional modellers.

That's a great idea Another "wonder of SL" might be the big chartreuse build. I'm not sure if I can name all the responsible entities, but I know Nephilaine, Neil and Rathe are all involved. It was already a wonder when it was textured in just plywood. Even in its uncompleted stage, it's the single most impressive build I've ever seen. What makes it more impressive is that it was built with pre1.2 rules. The amount of resources, effort and talent required to make a build of that magnitude is mind boggling.
