Damn, that was the hardest poll I've ever participated in. All of those are equally foolish, and equally common.
I opted for "Packing hundreds of textures onto a parcel.." because that's the one I myself am guilty of. My store has at least a hundred boxes on display, and I know it must be hard for people new to the store who haven't seen them all before. I have rearranged my build, added partitioning walls to try and cut down on how many textures have to load at once, and cut down dramatically on the use of Light, though. At least I realize it's me causing my own lag and I don't bitch about it. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. _____________________

Expecting people to see both sides of an issue.

Why is it foolish to believe that abilities given to us should work? If it is such a performance degradation to be allowed to do any of these acts, why are we given the option to create these mini chaotic events? Maybe there should be a warning...one we can select do not show again after being told... that would say "hey what are you new? you have the capability but it's going to really tweak your performance and everyone around you? DO you want to proceed with that attachment?" for example and or make it so the abilites we have are fully supported and reliably functional?

because the limits are limits. my pc has a multitaking operating system and enough memory to load a dozen programs and open sixteen files for each. it'll even still operate, but very very uselessly slowly dragging on and on and on because i've pushed it to its limit.
not one of these poll options says that it's foolish to simply do these things, but to do them and expect to blaze through the world like a cat on fire with no performance degradation. jonquille makes the point very well her post. the world at large will have many fewer lag, teleport and inventory loss issues is we will all take the responsibility of being responsible about the things we do that cause those issues in the first place. |

Overriding animations makes me giggle. I guess I just don't get it.

OK, this is kind of a newbish question, but what does it mean to override animations? Why do you do it, and what's the effect? (Am hoping I am not somehow accidentally doing this...)

Khamon - You've been around longer than I have - so its possible that I'm just mistaken on some of these but... "placing as many prims as a parcel supports and expecting no resulting lag" Seriously? If I have a 512m parcel, and I place 117 prims on it - I'm going to get perceptable lag out of that? If you mean a 10km parcel, and filling it to the max with prims - ok, I'm with ya on that. "packing hundreds of textures on a parcel and expecting a frame rate higher than 3" I'd guess I have at least 150 textures on my 4000m parcel in total, and my framerate chugs along just fine at around 15 FPS when there's less than 10 people present. If additional textures cause geometric amounts of lag when more people are present - that's good information to know I was under the impression, however - that its large-size and alpha textures that reduce client framerate - not neccesarily sheer number. If the point of your poll is just a joke - hehe its cool. But I'm on a mission to reduce lag - if I'm mistaken about the points above, I want to know so I can do something about it. Travis |

You were also given a body and heart, and yet, if you expect the heart to carry the maximum possibly density the body can create, your heart is going to give way under the strain. Restraint and the ability to reason are supposed to be one of the things that makes us a 'higher' form of being than other animals, so I wonder why it is people get so up in arms when we aren't forced to abide by a rule, but allowed to use our best judgement. _____________________

Not sure why overriding animations is in there lol. The only time I find it funny is when someone uses frozen modeling or pinup poses for their stands. They end up gliding around like a statue on wheels or the top half of their body stays posed lol. The point of overriding animations for me is to be more "real" and with smooth transistions and natural poses you can get the effect to a degree. What bugs me now is since 1.6 when we turn the lower body freezes, it's taking alot of getting used to. Everything else in the poll is a bit foolish to me so I'm having a hard time choosing lol.

This is the most rational and sensible thing I've seen on this forum in a long time. We need more new people like this. _____________________

Filling a sim with lots of physical objects with the INTENTION of crashing the sim, then getting pissed off if it somehow doesn't work.
