I've started a journey to Walk Across The World, or grid, or whatever you like. The goal is to touch the center (128,12 of every sim attached to the grid, much like Hamlet Linden's original Walk. However I'm doing it a bit differently. Mine is a bit more spontaineous and less schedualed and planed out, the only thing I actualy have planed is a crazy drawn out path that follows no real logic other than "Hey I can use photoshop to draw lines on a map!". I will stop to sleep, setting up a "camp"/"tent" area on any close property that allows me to do so (currently I have a tent setup on Launa's land in Freelon), I will stop at any random time to attend to RL stuff, and I may even stop to do some other SL work such as script or build etc.. Regardless of these random stops I do plan to reach my end goal, which... hasn't even been drawn up yet, heheh, but on the large scale the goal of going to every sim. I didn't post this before because it was a spontaneous "Hey, I feel like doing this" also partly in thinking about it, I'm not much of a leader, or guide, and large crowds tend to make sim travel hard. However anyone is welcome to walk along with me regardless of those facts, heheh. I won't run away from you or anything, but if I do suddenly stop or decide to randomly setup a camp and go to sleep, don't hold it against me. You're more than welcome to continue on without me on whatever course you wish to go on. Think of it as a lazy man's walk about across the world. My time schedual is also rather eschewed, I'm in EST, but I'm a nocturnal creature so I tend to go to bed around 10am-12pm and wake up around 7pm. I'll be loging in, in a few minutes and probably build something for a friend at camp, then start off on the walk again, if you want to join just IM me and ask if I'm walking and for a teleport. Attached is a picture of my drawn up map path, note that my camp is actualy currently in Freelon, not where its marked on the map (I thought I'd make it further my first day).

Yes, I can see that your map is obviously the work of a sane man. Good luck on your walk, Oz. I recommend finding some tape for the up-arrow key, and make coffee and sandwiches before you start

Hehe, I'll have to do those tomorrow. If the world was a bit more uh... straight, I could cover them all without even moving. Second day and I've gone through all the sims with the red line through them. I've setup camp in Federal though, which is a little out of my way from where I'll be picking back up, but its the closest friendly spot I know of. I went from about 6-7am to 11 pm, from Freelon to.. uh... whatever sim that is at the end there. I talked to Taeja in Mavericks and I think I covered uh... 20 something sims by then. In large part, I love this because I'm finding all sorts of awsome builds I never knew existed.

Oz - how 'bout I volunteer to be the Chronicle Keeper of the Sane Man's Walk Across the World, under the sponsorship of the Awakening Avatars Group? If you agree - you can send me the date, time and sim names on your walk, and maybe a brief note re: any interesting occurrences. I will then enter them into a database. (like we did it for the SL Historical Society), so they can be organized, sorted etc. eventually to go to Eggy's Wiki. Thus your sane efforts will become a part of the SL Historical Society's Archives (and any other historical/library/edu SL Groups). Finally, Awakening Avatars group can cordinate with you and sponsor some events to help with on-road support, new walking shoes, rain gear, sun-shade, etc. etec. What say thee? You can send me the info as a PM here.

Although I am not ready yet to reveal how he is doing this, since it is still in heavy beta testing before launch, Oz has been documenting his journey on his own while walking - check out his saga here - the pics and captions are really funny: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/Default.aspx?Name=Oz+SpadeIf you do want to contribute as part of the test, let me know

I guess I'll start keeping a notecard log and send it to you after each day. Wish I'd done this from the start, lol. Ah well. As for the events, my hours for when I'll start/stop are sketchy so I'm not sure of any definit timed events and such, I'd be worried I'd not make it somewhere on time or something. I'm not much of an event going guy really. Thanks for the offer though. Thanks Torley, and Edav (I think).

Enjoyed having you cross the Riverwalk in Ganymede today.
When I saw you, though, it looked like you were stuck over the river! Glad to hear you made it to your camp for the night. Really enjoyed reading of you exploits and discoveries and looking forward to more posts and pictures - thanks.

Bradder, Most likely I was ghosted. Most I've gotten stuck was from steel trees and trying to find ways around No Entry land. Lash, Yes! I passed through there and saw your build, looks great, believe I took a picture of it. Forseti, its definitly worth it. Its awsome what builds you see, alot of which I never knew existed before. I might just start all over again once I'm done so I can keep updated with everything, lol. I've started on the NE parts, I've got probably about half of it done, I'm taking a break for a little bit, setup camp in a cubicle.
