Hi All,

Several people have asked me about the transformer AV's shown in the video clip with Philip Linden... http://news.com.com/1606-2-5239548.html on the secondlife.com website.

The red, blue, green av's transform into a plane and fly away...

Anyone know who made them?

Jamie.

Might be one one Marcos Fonzarelli's AVs. Not sure though, I got the clip running but it was small and blurry.

Just saw the clip, it was very cool.

If you can't see the stream, it works like this:
You have this avatar, with all these attachments to look vaguely robot-ish. They jump in the air, and do this really cool origamy flip-flip-flop thing (presumably with a custom animation) and voila, you're a jet plane flying around, complete with sound effects and a little particle jet engine.

The little blurry text at the bottom left in the clip says, "xform and we go!"

Haven't a clue who did this, but please let me know if you figure it out :)

I saw this transformer av in the 1.4 preview, a Linden was wearing it.

I got the impression he made it also, sorry I can't remember which linden specifically.

That video makes me think that the Lindens have all sorts of uber toys hidden away that they play with, while we poor mortals toil daily for their amusement.

Down with the tyrrany of toys! Behead a Linden today!

The boxing was also a Linden invention.

Actually, just so you know, the whole video was shot in the 1.4 preview grid.

Wait a sec... if they were using a transformers AV, aren't they breaking copyright laws?

If you check out the video clip you'll see that they aren't actually Transformers, but a generic transforming robot-ish avatar.

Pretty nifty tho. :)

Indeed, very nifty. I could only aspire to produce such a cool effect.

Avatars in disguise... someone in the Welcome Area a few days ago had a transforming motorcycle-type avatar that was pretty cool and fun to watch. He even played the Transformers music while doing the change sequence. Who was this? If this was YOU, please post. I enjoyed your creation.

That is really something special and I guess you're right about the custom animation but, thinking about it, imagine the trial and error you'd go through (not to mention the animation uploads!) to get it right. I bet it was a long, drawn out process to get the end pose of the animation right. Unless it's Linden made and they have a funky in-house tool for twisting up avatars (with attachments on as well) in-world and making a pose out of it, then you could export that final pose into Poser and work your animation to that. That would be a great feature.

I'd love to see this avatar does its thing in-world, I'm sure it looks even better in the 'flesh' than on video.

Let's all go "robots in disguise" and storm the Welcome Area... nice way to sensory-overload the newcomers and impress them upon their first forays into the wonderful world o' SL, eh? ;)
