A question about prim limit, prim counter and possible griefing.

I was mentally going over what I'll do after 1.2 on my land when I had a thought.

The prim counter will show us how many prims are on our land, but will it show how many prims we created and how many prims were placed there by others?

I read somewhere (sorry, don't remember where) that objects created by others and left on your land will count against your prim limit.

This made me think about folks with smaller plots working with a strict limit. And that made me think of griefers. Shamefull we have them, but there are a few out there I'm sure.

My concern is with the possibility of say making like a ten prim thingie a day and droping it underground in someone elses land.

Do that for a few days and you really impact the other guy, and if it's underground, there's no way to know about it. I know there's something that prevents someone from dropping 500 prims all at once, but what about the sneaky person who just drops in 5 or 10 a day?

I see this as a major way to grief. Unless you strip mine your land, you'd never know they were there unless there are some tricks in the debug menu I don't know about.

Me, I'm not worried about this, as far as I know I have no enemies. Maybe a few disgruntled religous moralists here and there, but no enemies. This did concern me enough to want to ask about though.

In 1.2 there is an option to see prims others have built on your land and even a button that will return others objects to them (ie their inventory). It's in one of the tabs of the About Land dialog box. Plus as always there is the no create option....

Actually, I heard a rumor(?) that other peoples' trash on your land will just be returned automagically without you even having to search for it.

Confirmation?

Gaudeon is right, just a single click will return others items on your land to their inventory.

Objects on your land is very straightforward. Shows limit, total objects used and how many more can be rezzed. Shows number of objects belonging the land owner and others. Rezzing does not occur if land is at the max limit.

Kathy, I think that applies to public land. There will be no more public decay to hunt for and delete.

It does not make sense to have stuff on your land belonging to others to automatically go away. What if you gave permission to someone to build on your land? Its easy to remove others things, but I am not sure you can pick which is returned. Like if you wanted my chair on your land and didnt want Jellin's table. I think its all or nothing in this situation. So, some griefing would be possible if you allow others to leave their things there routinely.

On a related note, how will land management work?

As far as I understand it right now, if you join a piece of land with an adjacent piece, they become a single parcel of land. if you then want to modify or delete a tiny portion, you will have to release the entire block and then reclaim the land into the size you want.

If so, in Version 1.2 you could lose money whenever you want to reconfigure or chop-up land for various reasons as you are not refunded the purchase price.

Am I missing some functionality for breaking up joined land in Version 1.1, or will there be something new in Version 1.2?

One suggestion on my related note.

Maybe they could implement a "grace period" where claiming and releasing land over a 30 minute period (10min, 30 min, 60 min, whatever) would result in our L$ spent on the land refunded. After your land choice has had some time to "gel", then you wouldn't be able to get your money back after release.

Fun Debug Tricks #324: Hitting Alt-Shift-5 will remove the ground. I believe it's in the menu under Rendering > Features > Surface Patch. Once you stop rendering the ground you can select and manipulate underground objects.

The hell? You don't get your money back when you release land in 1.2? People who spend months saving their $50 stipend to buy some land will love that. So will everyone who releases parts of their land to help guide terraforming.

i'm under the impression that you don't get your money back for some period of time. so you have to own the land for say a couple of days before you recoup L$ for releasing it.

i might be wrong. this is exactly opposite of what hank was suggesting.

There is an option for having others objects disappear after a while as well as returning them yourself. You can set a time limit after which other peoples items will be returned to them... or you can set that limit to 0 to turn the option off.

I heard that you do get some of your money back from land but not all, but that's only what i heard. The fact that land is cheaper in 1.2 will help with that a lil i guess but it still sucks if it's true that you don't get any money back from releasing land.
