After reading /invalid_link.html and beginning to experiment with XML-RPC, I had an idea:

Short of LL offering shell accounts, what about people getting shell/web accounts with a hosting provider located near LL, network-wise (i.e., at most a few net-hops away from Verio's San Francisco routers)?

This may reduce network latency both with existing and future xmlrpc or networked API functions developed by LL, without requiring them to perform additional network/server administration functions.

I'm interested in what people think of that idea.

Also, can anyone suggest such an existing service provider, or would there be enough interest for someone to invest in setting such a service up?

I think a lot of us use dreamhost.com. There was a deal a while back for $10/year or something. It's about 15-20ms RTT to data.agni.lindenlab.com.

Yup, Dreamhost has been quicker than even LL's internal asset server for most applications I have done. (at least once past the intializing email)
