Amazing. Imagine if this works (as it looks like it might) for humans.

Awesome! It works for Lupus too (in human trials). But sadly, cannot be done here in the U.S.

You know, despite what people think they know about stem cell research, IT IS NOT BANNED IN THE UNITED STATES.
FEDERAL FUNDING of it is. I don't agree it should be, so don't jump down my throat about the fact that it is. I want to know that if stem cell research is all it's cracked up to be -- and there is more evidence of that every few months -- then where the hell is all the private funding? Bill Gates ALONE could match what the feds would have supported. For that matter, if George Soros would put 50% of what he spent to try and get George Bush out of office into stem cell research, we'd be off to a good start. _____________________

The problem is that no private source can possibly match the amount that the feds can pour into funding. Gates, Soros or whoever could match what the feds can.... at first. But only briefly. Look at NASA's budget. Even Gates, Allen, Soros, Branson, Turner, whoever.... they can't support that kind of funding for very long. This is why so many of these huge breakthroughs (space travel, the Internet, etc) can be ultimately traced back to the government. Nobody else has the resources. |

It's only Federal funding that is banned, but again I think that will change as people begin to see the incredible results the research can deliver, like reversing paralysis. California, in an effort to make an end run around the Federal funding ban, allows state money to fund stem cell research. Give it another year or two and you'll see a significant increase in private funding. Like I said, watch California.. we'll be leading the way. ![]() |

StarWars geek moment:
Stem cells are the bacta of the future. With stem cells, we'll be able to fix all sorts of problems, including regrowing limbs, curing paralysis, drain bramage, and significantly reduce the need for organ transplants. _____________________

Lung/Liver3000! Which leads the paranoid part of my brain to think: maybe some of the anti-stem cell hysteria has deeper roots than mere religious propaganda. |
