I've always had this question - although it won't happen, but to sate my curiosity:
What would happen if the state votes were to tie? Would the electoral college make the decision, or would it go elsewhere?
Siggy.

If it's a tie, 269-269, the Senate picks the President and the House picks the Vice-President.

From: Aaron Levy If it's a tie, 269-269, the Senate picks the President and the House picks the Vice-President. Which in this case would be Bush/Cheney

The gap in Ohio will be large enough to make a recount not even legally possible.

hmmm...we'll see, a count of provisionals and absentees is always legal and should be done anyhow. And with people voting up to an hour ago in Ohio...I don't really think it is close enough to call yet but if you have a line to God telling you Bushie won then tell the old girl I said Hello

From: Kendra Bancroft Siggy was asking about what if a STATE was a tie. Both are pretty good questions in hindsight And to Nolan - I wasn't posing it as a 'what if THIS election' -- I'm pretty sure that unless someone really messed up their books this one is over.. Siggy.

CNN.com shows all the percentages in per county. The Kerry counties are 100% except for 4% in Franklin. Which would be in the 15k range. There are still quite a few smaller Bush counties still out also that make up about 6% of that 8% not in in ohio as of right now.

Franklin is Now 100% in with mainly Bush counties left. So that would about do it. Bush is up over 100k in Ohio and that should grow a few k before its over.

CNN just declared that Ohio is too close to call. They are in fact not declaring Ohio a red state. And Stark is still out with a 20000 vote margin in Kerry's favor.

From: Kendra Bancroft Siggy was asking about what if a STATE was a tie. Ehh? I was responding to Aaron's interpretation of what Siggy said, your post should probably be directed at him...

600000 votes uncounted in Ohio as of right now and the margin is just over 100,000 votes...so somebodies numbers are a bit off.

Bush is leading with 123,000 votes... which is a growth from the last update... Precincts in: 96%.... it's beyond challenging.
Bush is leading in New Mexico with %5. This should be it...
