OK, so I need a break from the big issues of tolerance, Marxism and why elitists look at telehubs as if they were city buses.
Those of you who have played in other worlds with radio stations -- is it me or is the sound quality bad on just about every custom SL radio station broadcasting? In TSO and THERE the sound quality from those who provided radio services was much better. And I do realize that TSO and THERE did not provide the facilities for those radio stations, they were on services similar to what people in SL are using. It just seems as if the sound quality sucks. Which is a shame because I love the notion of having businesses and services in-world advertised on radio.

Hmmmm. I've never noticed a problem with sound quality...The established more comercialized stations like Club 977 and Virgin Radio do come thru more clearly than others...but I think that's to be expected.

Try Spittoonie Radio! It's playing 24/7 on Spittoonie Island, it's a mix of 70's, 80's and 90's, and whatever else strikes our fancy. Trimda is a liscensed DJ for the music, and our website includes an interface to request songs from our playlists to play on demand.

Well, thats the big thing. To run 24x7 radio at 128Kbps, it needs a fairly big server package. For most people the $70+ per month price tag is often too much. As well, they also have to deal with listener limits. I hate plugging myself or anything I do, but thats something that I have been really picky about, running at 128Kbps. My monthly throuput is about 200-300GBs of data which fetches me a bill of $70-$120 per month. As well, another big thing is most individuals who do have the money, often aren't willing to pay the extra amount for the required licensing to legally obtain nor broadcast their music. I'm very lucky as I'm located in Canada, so I don't have to deal with the RIAA and their crazy rules and guidelines. I deal with SOCANs and the AVLA, so my cost is much lower. If one is going to spend the money on the big server and big bandwidth, do they want to risk themselves big copyright problems running a pirate radio station? Furthermore, like the suggestion made about inworld business advertising, thats a thought I have been toying with as well. If people are interested, they can IM in world and I'd be happy to send'em a package on it all Now that aside, common and listen, and your welcome to set your plot to the radio station, happy to provide! Oh, and last thing, soon to come, 3 new themed stations (HIP-HOP/R&B/Dance Hall, Electronic, Indy Artists and Heavy Rock). Now, enough of my shameless plugging

From: daz Groshomme the sound quality of what is streamed through SL is identical to what I get through I-Tunes.... Exactly, its all up to the source stream. Anyone can visit shoutcast.com and pick off a 128Kbps stream, and then a 64Kbps stream and see the difference there. The SL client is just fine, its just people's choice of stations and their Kbps.

Ahh, but that means installing the codec. For technically apt individuals, this isn't an issue, for the less technical minded, heh, the hunt begins. While I like mp3Pro, unfortunately, its not supported everywhere. Look at most professional broadcasters, and see what codec their using, good ol' Legacy MP3.
