Crow -- what kinds of things do you do now? Usually it's best to figure out what you do, and see if you can do those on either platform or if one platform is better than the other.
What are the specs of your current PC? SL will probably run worse on a Mac than it does on your PC, unless you have an older PC. You may even want to keep your PC to play SL on while you do most of the stuff on your Mac (which is what I do). As Merwan said, head to the Apple website, specifically http://www.apple.com/switch/ |

Really Only SL, Photoshop work, and Video Editing. The Editing is most important as it has to do with RL work but SL is in a close second and want to be sure it runs there well.
My PC now is so old it's not even Linden Supported. Thanks I appreciate it.. Anymore info? Crow _____________________

Well, all Adobe products are Apple-native, so that covers Photoshop and Premiere. And of course there's Final Cut Pro (new HD version out recently too).
As for your PC not being LL-supported, well, you probably won't do too bad on the Mac then. Yeah, you'll want dual processors so you can do more than one of these things at a time without choking your system. And max out the RAM too if its w/in your budget. I'd sit down and figure out what you do on a daily basis on the PC, and see if you can hunt down a comparable program on the Mac. Don't forget the obscure things you use every once in a while but you'll sorely miss if you forget to find it on the Mac. Or, all else fails, keep your PC for it, or get VirtualPC for the Mac. |

From the sounds of your professional needs from a computer a Mac would indeed best suit you. I think you would be amazed at the speed at which your work would be rendered. The down side is less gaming software, though in recent years there has been an increase in titles supporting and/or geared at the Mac community.
I help support over 20 PC labs on our campus and we have the least amount of service calls to our Mac lab, so you can take from that what you want. In addition the new 10.x OS is really sleek and damned impressive. I myself still use a PC and will for the foreseeable future, but were I in your shoes I would seriously consider getting a Mac. The one piece of advice I would offer is to beforehand locate your nearest service provider as they apple now requires a person to be mac certified before they will ship warrantied replacement parts for their products and I know after I got my certification I found out the next closest certified "tech" was over 45 miles away. Were it not for the fact I was authorized through work I would try and get a contract in my local area, but I am ethically impaired. ![]() |

Yes Mickey brings up a good point about certified techs. Also if someone tries to tell you there is "Tech certification and there's tech certification..." you probably don't wanna do business with them.
Don't hesitate to call Apple's 800 number for verification re: certified tech and service shops. And finally, RAM, RAM, RAM, buy as much as your budget will allow for. _____________________
