What are your usual first reactions upon reading the 'hot topic of the day' on these forums?

How is this any different? Its change.
If your dealer raises prices... you pay or find another dealer.
If your dealer goes to jail, you find another dealer.
If your dealer changes the quality of his product, you still buy or find another dealer.

Lindens are the dealers, we are the junkies.
Cope with the change, or find another dealer people.

What other dealer is that? Who else offers what LL offers? Can you tell me, cuz I'm genuinely interested in alternatives.

If LL are a drug dealer , the drug they offer is the only one of its kind. So they kind of have us over a barrel when they change the price or the terms, don't they?

It's not 'find another dealer', it's 'either put up and shut up, or stop doing drugs'.

Perhaps... if you actually create something in SL, then your argument holds true, but only to the point of an environment to create in. But it costs nothing to create, so you dont need cash to do so. Base stipend can generally cover upload fees.

But the majority of the uproar I have seen thusfar has been from the "Make Nothing" crowd.
If you dont make anything to generate cash, then yes, you can go to damned near ANY online world and play dress up, act like an idiot, and get your HOT CHAT mojo fix.

I am not saying the sky is falling nor painting my skin pitch black with ashes, climbing upon a soap box, and predicting the doom of SL. I think SL will adjust as it will given time, and I am withholding my opinion until the dust settles. I have a premium account I pay for, as well as land I maintain because I like it. I would like to see more meaningful events occur in SL, beside just the usual, one dimensional drivel of "The Sexiest AV' contests that seem to be the norm these days. Of course, I do enjoy shallow things like that from time to time. Color me crazy.

However, yes, I am one of those people in the 'make nothing' crowd at this time, besides a few things, like some pose balls, I build for my own use... and now that I've put a bunch of useless b.s. here for people to read..

I will say I'm rather f*cking tired of some people that do build, create, etc, saying that we, I suppose as the rabble, are worth nothing. (Yes, I'm aware not all say this or have this attitude, nor does it apply but to the whining members of the populace perhaps..) I assure you not all of us are only worth the colors of the lindens that we spend to buy those products lovingly build, designed, and created by the talent in SL. Do not get me wrong, I fully support and love those people that create, script, design, build, etc, and kudos to you, and if only more people did so, but not everyone does, for whatever reasons..

so in short, take your f*cktard narrow minded attitude, and feel free to shove it up your ass, where apparently your head is inserted most of the time.

I think there's alot of OVER reaction about this. I for one have made most of my SL living from event hosting & I don't see this as an entirely bad thing. I do however think that LL should have cut ratings & ratings bonuses out & maybe reduced support for events in 1/2 versus get rid of it all together. Should be interesting to see where this all goes. I can tell you this, when I am feeling better, this will NOT stop me from hosting bingo or other events that I want to host.

I think the increase in the cost of the ratings is a *great* idea. In fact I would rather have seen it raised to $L100 per rate. This way, you know if you get a rating, the person really means it. And surely, that was the whole purpose of having the things in the first place?

So far as the other changes go, I think we will have to wait and see the effect on sl over the future weeks. I'm sure that if the changes prove to be deleterious they will be modified. Personally I will be really happy to see the spam disappear from the events board.

I have to say I agree. I am sure more people will be a bit more picky about ratings knowing that have to pay so much more for them. But the ratings system has been used & abused. Just not alot of point to it "as is"

i was at the welcome center yesterday listening to people talk to philip like he was the evil morgoth bent on enslaving them all and then just spitefully destroying the world anyway.

i would make a bad linden because i would've been suspending accounts left and right and saying things such as "we don't need you here." i haven't seen personal attacks like that since robin was pummeled after 1.2 was announced. it's shameful. every time i've thought about chucking second life into the bin, it's been because of the way we residents were behaving. this is one of those times.

but i'm just overreating to overreactions eh
