First off, let me say that I'm an SL newb. So, my experience is limited.
I bought a "wig" and tried it on. The package included bangs, back fringe, and the base hair on which to attach the pieces. However, the pieces do not match up at all. And they're non-editable, so, I can't alter the positioning.
The result is a large gap.
Am I doing something wrong?
Take a look at the attached images and let me know.
001 is my avatar. 002 is the photo of how the hair should look.

You should still be able to right click on the hairpiece itself, when it's on your head, and choose 'edit'. From the edit menu you can CAREFULLY use the arrows to position the hairpiece, or even stretch it. From the picture, it looks like your head is too big for it. You could either stretch it, or make your head smaller Maybe make your forehead smaller? My head never fits with hairpieces right out of the box, I always have to do some adjusting

Lourdes, I'm quite certain you can edit that hair. It looks like it's positioned too low for your AV. Right-click the hair and go into edit. It may take a couple of times for you to highlight the actual attachment because it's postioned so closely to your av. But once you get it in Edit mode, you can nudge that attachment up or make it wider for your forehead by stretching it.
You could try IMing the creator and have them adjust one for your head size. Or if you want, go into Appearance mode and scale your head down so it will fit into the attachment.
Just a reminder, when you buy wigs, you wear them as attachments. So you can't edit the hair in appearance mode (just the base). You edit the wig's position/size/colour the same way you would edit the position of your necklace or ring.

Hmm. I tried to edit the base layer many times, but I never thought about adjusting the av height.
Thanks very much HoseQueen and Lash.
