... that you have been alone - as in - not in a primary relationship with another adult human being - not related to you by blood... well unless of course you are carrying on with a cousin...but you know what I mean.
I have been living alone - quite happily now - for 7 years. This is after years and years of serial monogamy.

I have been living alone - quite happily now - for 7 years. This is after years and years of serial monogamy. I sometimes think I'm happiest when alone, (ie. not in an ongoing steady relationship), but I do find having a good and active sexual relationship makes me sleep better.

3 months was the longest period of time completely out of any relationship. Other than that I have been in relationships that have lasted for years, usually starting off as friends and developing the relationships from there. I can't imagine not being with the person I'm with now though. He makes my world a beautiful place in our first lives and our secondlife.

The first 15 years of my life... how tragic it was. Seriously, I would have to say probably somewhere around a year was the longest during my adult life. I have always had a very close set of friends though and never in my life been particularly lonely if that is the crux of your question.

I am just curious if folks have spent time being by themselves primarily without loneliness being a hovering drama. IE: living alone, and not being forced to be that way due to constant rejection etc., but just choosing to accept that perhaps for some people living alone is where the key to peace of mind lies. This doesn't imply hermitage... one can have friends, sex, socialization of many types and still basically be on their own. Not in a narcissistic sense, but in the sense that Fen referred to in another thread about all of us needing to learn to be alone. I think I started learning it the hard way, and then grew to accept and finally enjoy that condition.

Hmm... 23 years. Er... well, if you're only counting as an adult, 5 years. I'm surprised anyone would actually put up with me as an SO. I'm pretty odd.

4 years. It wasn't fun, and I don't want to do it again.
